What do a peach basket and a soccer ball have in common? Would you ever guess basketball? 36 A Canadian physical education professor, James Naismith, invented the game and set some basic rules to keep his gym class active during long winters.

Over the years, some pieces of equipment of the game have been changed a lot. Take the peach basket, a basket with a fixed bottom, for example. 37 This way, players don’t need to stop the game to get the ball out of the basket.

Moreover, in the early days, the game was not played with its own special ball but a soccer ball. 38 It was more visible to players and is now used generally.

Four people share what they think about the historical figure Henry VIII on Facebook.

Sandra Wu

Henry VIII was such a cruel king! No matter who made him angry, he made an order to get the person’s head chopped off, and two of his six wives were no exceptions. He should have treated his people nicely just as his daughter, Elizabeth I, did. Peter Lee

Henry VIII is most famous for his six wives. However, few people know that he was actually a strong military leader and did a lot for his kingdom. The navy of England nowadays is one of his great works.

Susan Brown

Shakespeare wrote a play about his life called Henry VIII. In it, you can find that when he was young, he aimed to be a famous and great king. However, in my opinion, he failed. A respectful king should not run out of all the money that his father left drinking, partying, and building palaces.

Dear Jessie,

In your last email, you asked me what my favorite movie is. Well, I would say it is Alice in Wonderland. The movie is about Alice, a girl who is about to marry a man she was uninterested in, falling down a hole by accident. In the hole, she discovers another world called “Underland,” where she has to face many difficulties alone with her courage. Little by little, she becomes braver and braver when solvingthem one by one. In the end, she finds who she is and is confident with herself.

I think most of us are like the Alice in the beginning of the movie who is short of the courage and confidence to face problems. Every time I feel upset, I watch the movie to get courage, and after it, I can always learn a lot from Alice’s spirit. That is the reason why I like it.

After seeing the movie, I decided to adjust my life attitude. First, I plan to cope with every difficulty I meet bravely and fight against the fear. Second, I will start speaking out my own opinions to strive for what I want with confidence. Just be like Alice and live without any regrets.

Yours, Edward 49.What do “them” mean?
