真的只有教師知識和信念嗎?
數學教師覺察力:從另一個觀點來看待

一、教師覺察力簡介
「 教 師 覺 察 力 」 (Goodwin, 1994; Mason, 2002; Seidel & Sturmer, 2014; Sherin & van Es, 2009)一 詞,簡 單的 說,它 是 在 探 討 教 師 的 視 野 中 到 底 看 到 什 麼 。 這 意 謂 教 師 在 複 雜 的 課 室 環 境 中 , 特 別 注 意 什 麼 、 關 心 什 麼 、 如 何 對 這 些 事 件 做 出 反 應 。 一 般 而 言 , 教 師 覺 察 力 有 兩 個 主 要 程 序 :(1)注 意 (attending to)特 定事 件 ; (2)對 注 意 的 事 件 賦 予 意 義(making sense of events)。 前 者 (注 意 )意 謂 教 師 身 處 於 龐 大 且 複 雜 的 教 學 情 境 中,他(她)必 須「 主動 」 的 選 擇 去 注 意 什 麼 、 注 意 多 久 、 同 時 也 決 定 忽 略 什 麼 。 後 者(賦 予 意 義 )是 當 教 師 決 定 去 注 意 什 麼 後 , 接 下 來 他(她 )要 決 定 如 何 去 解 釋 他(她 )所 關 注 的 事 件 , 進 一 步 決 定 要 如 何 去 回 應 這 些 事 件(Amador, 2014; Huang & Li, 2012; Jacobs, Lamb, & Philipp, 2010; Mellone, 2011; Sherin, Jacobs, et al., 2011; Star & Strickland, 2008; Sun & van Es, 2015; Walkoe, 2015)。例 如教 師(1)注 意 到 學 生 的 某 一 個 解 題 想 法(程 序 1: 注 意特 定 事 件), (2)接 著 理 解 學 生 的 背 後 的 數 學 思 考 , 然 後 決 定 要 如 何 介 入(程 序 2: 對事 件 賦 予 意 義)。 事 實 上 , 這 兩 個 程 序 交 互 影 響 , 並 且 形 成 一 個 反 覆 循 環(cyclical), 教 師 依 據 對 關 注 事 件 的 解 釋 決 定 了 要 繼 續 關 注 什 麼 、 忽 略 什 麼 ; 而 持 續 的 關 注 某 一 事 件 , 又 將 導 致 教 師 對 事 件 有 新 的 詮 釋 , 如 此 「 注 意 特 定 事 件 」 和 「 賦 予 意 義 」 交 互 的 循 環 且 影 響 著(Sherin, Jacobs, et al., 2011)。二、教師覺察力的重要性
教 師 覺 察 力 在 教 師 研 究 領 域 具 有 極 為 重 要 的 意 義 , 因 為 教 師 覺 察 力 是 學 習 或 改 變 教 學 中 不 可 或 缺 的 一 部 分 , 同 時 它 也 是 教 師 教 學 決 策 中 的 重 要 元 素 , 與 信 念 、 知 識 高 度 相 關 , 說 明 如 下 : (一 ) 發 展 教 師 覺 察 力 促 成 教 學 改 變 (Philipp, Jacobs, & Sherin, 2014; Sherin, Jacobs, et al., 2011)。教 師 所 注 意 的 , 也 將 是 他(她 )教 學 上 所 重 視 的(Schoenfeld, 2011), 所 以 如 果 教 師 不 注 重 某 個 課 室 事 件(例 如,學 生 的 某 個 數 學 思 考),我們 也 很
難 期 待 在 教 學 時 看 到 他(她 )如 何 去 處 理 它 。 教 師 注 意 什 麼 將 造 成 他(她 )的 教 學 行 為,因 此,提 升 教 師 的 覺 察 力, 使 得 教 師 將 用 不 一 樣 的 觀 點 看 待 原 本 的 課 室 事 件,並 且 能 夠 賦 予 新 的 意 義, 最 終 將 促 成 教 學 的 改 變 。 對 於 職 前 教 師 來 說 , 他 們 普 遍 缺 乏 教 學 的 技 能 與 知 識 , 而 發 展 覺 察 力 便 是 關 鍵 中 的 關 鍵 , 職 前 教 師 如 果 不 能 先 發 展 出 覺 察 力 , 最 終 將 無 法 發 展 出 成 功 的 改 革 教 學(Mitchell & Marin, 2015; Sherin & van Es, 2005)。
( 二 ) 教 師 覺 察 力 與 信 念 、 知 識 息 息 相 關 (Kersting, 2008; Mitchell & Marin, 2015; Schoenfeld, 2011)。 教 師 覺 察 力 影 響 了 教 師 在 課 室 中 的 決 策(decision making),但是 教 師 覺 察 什 麼 與 如 何 展 現 他(她 )的 關 注 , 則 是 與 他 ( 她 ) 的 信 念 與 知 識 相 關 (Schoenfeld, 2011)。例 如 Kersting 的 研 究 發 現 , 通 常 能 夠 在 解 釋 影 片 獲 得 高 分 的 人(覺 察 力 ), 也 能 夠 在 知 識 測 驗 上 得 到 高 分 , 這 告 訴 我 們 , 如 果 忽 略 培 養 教 師 的 覺 察 力 , 可 能 導 致 他 們 的 知 識 或 信 念 發 展 受 限 , 進 一 步 影 響 到 教 學 決 策 的 能 力 。
貳、文獻回顧
一、教師覺察力
覺 察 力(noticing)或 可 譯 為 「 注 意 」、 「 察 覺 」、「 關 注 」或「 意 識 」,它 的 意 思 是 「 觀 察 」(observe)、「 理 解」(realize)和「 處 理 」某 事(Ball, 2011),「 覺 察力 」是 我 們日 常 生 活 的 一 部 分 , 例 如 我 們 可 能 會 注 意 到 今 天 的 早 餐 好 不 好 吃 、 某 位 朋 友 的 心 情 好 不 好 、 今 天 的 天 氣 如 何 等 , 覺 察 力 同 時 也 決 定 了 我 們 的 行 為 反 應 , 例 如 我 們 注 意 到 今 天 的 天 氣 是 陰 天 , 可 能 會 下 雨 , 因 此 我 們 會 攜 帶 雨 具 出 門 等 。 老 師 每 天 處 在 訊 息 爆 炸 的 課 室 環 境 中 , 他(她 )到 底 關 注 些 什 麼 ? 什 麼 背 後 原 因 造 成 他(她 )特 別 注 意 這 些 事 物 ? 這 些 都 與 他(她 )的 覺 察 力 相 關 。 教 學 是 一 個 複 雜 行 為 , 教 師 每 天 都 在 處 理 極 度 複 雜 與 快 速 的 資 訊 , 透 過 覺 察 力 , 從 中 進 行 教 學 決 策 。 學 者 們 對 於 教 師 覺 察 力 的 定 義 分 歧 (Jacobs et al., 2010; Sherin, Jacobs, et al., 2011),他 們 各 自有 不 同 的 重心 , 但 van E 和 Sherin (2002)的定 義 是 比較 普 遍 被 接受 的 定 義 , 她 們 定 義 教 師 覺 察 力 包 含 注 意 、 解 釋、連 結 三 個 要 素。(1)注意:辨 識 出什 麼 是 課 室 情 境 中 值 得 注 意 的 重 要 事 件。(2) 解 釋 : 使 用 個 人 的 瞭 解 去 理 解 這 個 特 定 課 室 事 件。(3) 連 結:將 辨 識 出的 特 定 課 室互 動 與 廣 泛 的 教 學 與 學 習 原 則 間 連 結 。 Jacobs et al. (2010)將 教 師 如何「 回 應 學 生 」也 加 進 去,所 以 他 們 的 三 個 元 素 是: (1)注 意學 生 的 思考、(2)解 釋學 生 的 瞭 解、 (3) 回 應 學 生 的 工 作 ( 回 應 學 生 也 可 見 於 Warshauer et al., 2014) 。 類 似 的 Stockero(2014)也將 教 師 如 何「 回 應 學 生」 加 到 她 的 定 義 中,不 過 她 保 留 了 上 述 的「 連 結 」,她 有 四 個 元 素:(1)辨 識出 情 境 中 的重 要 事 件(注 意 )、 (2)連 結 特 定 課 室 情 境 與 教 學 和 學 習 的 廣 泛 原 則 、(3)理解 這 個 情 境 、 (4)決 定如 何 回 應。補 充 說 明的 是,上 述(1)-(3)的 定義 主 要 是基 Sherin 的定 義(e.g., van Es & Sherin, 2002),而(4)則 是來 自 Jacobs et al. (2010)。學 者 們 通 常 會 將 上 述(2)連 結 與 (3)理 解 歸 為 同 類,因 為 這 都 是 屬 於 如 何「 解 釋 」 課 室 現 象;如 果 用 更 廣 泛 的 定 義,連(4)回 應 也 會 與 連 結 與 理 解 同 類 , 這 都 屬 於 教 師 如 何 對 決 定 觀 察 的 現 象 賦 予 意 義(making sense)(Sherin, Jacobs, et al., 2011), 其 後, 我 們 將 再 整 理 這 些 不 同 定 義 。 Star 和 Strickland (2008)的 定 義 則 是 聚 焦 在van Es 和 Sherin (2002)的(1)注 意 上,Star 和 Strickland 認 為(1)是覺 察 力 的 基 礎 , 如 果 沒 有 注 意 , 後 面 的 連 結 與 解 釋 根 本 不 可 能 發 生 。 他 們 所 謂 的 注 意 , 簡 單 來 說 就 是 當 教 師 在 觀 察 課 室 的 時 候 , 教 師 注 意 到 什 麼 與 忽 略 什 麼。對 職 前 教 師 來 說, 「 注 意 」 這 個 元 素 尤 其 重 要 , 因 為 職 前 教 師 往 往 缺 乏 注 意 這 個 最 基 本 的 能 力 。 Goodwin(1994) 使 用 專 業 視 野 (profession vision)來 描 述 覺 察 力 , 他 認 為 專 業 視 野 是 一 種 基 於 個 人 興 趣 , 看 見 和 瞭 解 重 要 事 件 的 能 力 , 對 教 師 來 說 , 就 是 察 覺 教 室 和 解 釋 重 要 課 室 互 動 的 能 力 。 Sherin (2007)認 為 專 業 視 野 應 該 包 含 兩 個 主 要 的 程 序 : (1) 選 擇 注 意 (selective attention) 和 (2) 知 識 為 基 礎 的 推 理 (knowledge-based reasoning)。 選 擇 注 意是 指 教 師 決 定 在 當 下 要 注 意 什 麼,如 同 前 述, 課 室 是 一 個 複 雜 的 環 境 , 很 多 事 件 同 時 發 生 , 教 師 必 須 決 定 選 擇 去 注 意 什 麼 、 以 及 忽 略 什 麼 。 選 擇 注 意 這 個 想 法 在 先 前 的 研 究 就 被 探 討 過,例 如 Bell 和 Cowie (2001) 談 到 的「 互 動 式 形 成 評 量 」,這 個 詞 彙 用 來 說 明 教 師 可 以 分 辨 哪 些 學 生 聽 得 懂 , 哪 些 學 生 聽 不 懂。此 外,Fraivilling, Murphy, 和 Fuson (1999)強 調 教 師 等 待 和 聆 聽 學 生 想 法 的 能 力 , 這 意 味 教 師 仔 細 聆 聽 所 有 學 生 提 供 的 想 法 , 然 後 從 中 辨 認 出 哪 些 跟 今 天 課 程 要 教 的 主 題 特 別 相 關 。 第 二 個 程 序 知 識 為 基 礎 的 理 解 , 意 味 教 師 從 他 的 知 識 和 瞭 解 去 理 解 他 所 注 意 的 現 象 , 例 如 教 師 可 以 從 他 的 課 程 知 識 、 學 科 知 識 、 對 學 生 的 知 識 去 理 解 特 殊 事 件。上 述(1)選 擇 注 意和 (2)知 識為 基 礎 的理 解 是 兩 個互 動 的 程 序 , 這 意 味 教 師 選 擇 注 意 什 麼 會 影 響 他 如 何 進 行 理 解 , 相 對 的 教 師 的 知 識 和 期 待 也 會 驅 動 他 們 去 注 意 什 麼 。 總 結 來 說 , 上 述 這 些 定 義 的 差 異 性 可 以 區 分:(1)只 定義 注 意 和 忽略 什 麼,例如 Star, Lynch, 和 Perova (2011); Star 和 Strickland (2008)。 (2)同 時 定 義 注 意 和 解 釋 , 例 如 Sun 和 van Es (2015)。(3)定 義 注 意 、 解 釋 與 如 何 回 應 所 注 意 的 事 件 , 例 如 Jacobs, Lamb, Philipp, 和 Schappelle (2011)、 (4)聚 焦 特 定 主 題 , 例 如 聚 焦 學 生 思 考 的 覺 察 力(Kang & Anderson, 2015)。
儘 管 存 在 一 些 對 教 師 覺 察 力 不 同 的 定 義 , 但 是 這 些 定 義 都 在 談 論 個 體 如 何 對 情 境 賦 予 意 義(making sense)(Jacobs et al., 2010)。Sherin, Jacobs, et al. (2011)總 結 這 些 不 同 定 義 , 認 為 教 師 覺 察 力 有 兩 個 主 要 程 序 : (a) 注 意教 學 情 境 中的 特 定 事 件:為 了 掌 控 課 室 的 複 雜 性,教 師 必 須 決 定 注 意 什 麼 和 忽 略 什 麼。換 言 之,他 們 必 須 選 擇 注 意 什 麼、注 意 多 久、忽 略 什 麼、 以 及 忽 略 多 久。在 這 個 定 義 下,有 學
者 廣 泛 的 討 論 教 師 注 意 什 麼、忽 略 什 麼(Star & Strickland, 2008);但 也 有 學 者 聚 焦 於 特 定 主 題 的 覺 察 力,例 如 聚 焦 學 生 思 考 的 覺 察 力(noticing of students ’ mathematical thinking) (Ferná ndez, Llinares, & Valls, 2013; Kang & Anderson, 2015; Walkoe, 2015) (b) 對 教 學 情 境 中 的 事 件 賦 予 意 義 (making sense): 對 於 教 師 注 意 的 事 件,教 師 不 是 被 動 的 訊 息 接 受 者,相 反 的,教 師 必 須 解 釋 他 們 所 見,將 這 些 事 件 抽 象 化 與 特 徵 化。對 於 教 師 如 何 理 解 這 些 現 象,不 同 學 者 有 不 同 的 分 類 架 構(Sullivan, 2011), 並且 有 時 候 也 包 含 了 教 師 如 何 回 應(Jacobs et al., 2011)。 其 中(a)和(b)是 互動 的 循 環,教師 注 意 什 麼 會 決 定 他 如 何 去 解 釋 這 些 事 件 , 而 如 何 解 釋 這 些 事 件 , 也 會 影 響 他 下 次 決 定 要 去 注 意 什 麼 , 兩 者 相 輔 相 成 。
二、研究教師覺察力的方法學差異
研 究 教 師 覺 察 力 有 一 個 最 直 接 的 作 法 , 就 是 要 求 他 們 把 當 時 看 到 和 想 到 的 , 用 放 聲 思 考 的 方 式 講 出 來(Ericsson & Simon, 1980),然 而,對 於 教師 來 說 這 是不 太 可 行 的 , 因 為 不 可 能 在 教 學 的 當 下 打 斷 教 師 的 教 學 。 因 此 研 究 上 大 概 有 三 個 主 要 的 作 法(Sherin, Russ, & Colestock, 2011): (1)提 供別 人 的 教學 影 帶,供 教 師評 論、(2) 教 師 事 後 回 想 在 教 學 中 看 到 什 麼 與 想 什 麼 (可 以教 完 立 即 問、也 可 以 請他 看 自 己 的影 帶)、 (3)從 教 師 的 教 學 影 帶 中 推 論 教 師 的 覺 察 力 。 除 上 述 外,還 有 一 些 不 同 的 分 類 方 式: 例 如 有 些 研 究 者 聚 焦 研 究 個 別 教 師 的 覺 察 力(個案 研 究 , 如: Mitchell et al., 2015)、 而 有 些 聚 焦 於 整 體 教 師 的 覺 察 力(Sherin, Jacobs, et al., 2011); 覺 察 力的 評 量 設 計也 有 差 異 :(1)有 些 使 用 學 生 的 寫 作 (如 解 題 過 程) 當 作 素 材 (Fern á ndez, Llinares, & Valls, 2012)、(2)使 用 靜 態 的課 室 教 學 圖片 (Carter, Cushing, Sabers, Stein, & Berliner, 1988)、(3)使 用教 學 影 帶(van Es & Sherin, 2002) 、 (4) 使 用 卡 通 動 畫 (Herbst et al., 2013)、 (5)觀 看 真 實 的 課 室 教 學 當 作 媒 介 (Sherin & Es, 2003);如 果 是影 帶 當 作 素材 的 研 究,則 可 以 區 分 影 帶 的 長 度(短 片 或整 個 教 學), 例 如 Sherin 和 van Es (2009)的 影 片 是 剪 輯 過 後 的 影 片 , 長 度 約 5 分 鐘; Star et al. (2011)則是 觀 看 完整 的 課 室 教學 影 帶(約 50 分 鐘)。影 帶 的 來源 則 是 可 以區 分 教 師 自 己 的 教 學 或 別 人 的 教 學 、 編 輯 過 或 未 編 輯 過 的 影 帶(McConville & Lane, 2006);此外,有 學者 使 用 動畫 或 是 課 室轉 錄 稿 來 取 代 傳 統 的 影 片(Herbst et al., 2013)。 如 何 擷 取 教 師 的 覺 察 力 也 各 有 作 法 , 例 如 有 些 學 者 分 析 教 師 的( 口 語 ) 討 論 資 料、有 些 學 者 分 析 教 師 寫 作 的 資 料(撰 寫反 思 文 本)(Jacobs et al., 2010)、有 些 透 過 分 析 教 師 的 畫 圖(Star & Strickland, 2008);問 題 的 選 用 上,有 些 是 結 構 化 的 問 題(如:影 片 中 學 生 的 計 算 錯 誤 是 什 麼?)(Star et al., 2011),有些 是 開放 性 的 問 題(如:你 注 意到什 麼?)(Walkoe, 2015); 有 些允 許 受 試 者回 看 影 片(倒 轉、快 轉、暫 停 )或 再次 觀 看 影 片 (Herbst et al., 2013; Star et al., 2008); 有 個 最 新 的 方 式 是 讓 教 師 使 用 頭 戴 式 隱 藏 攝 影 機 , 藉 由 分 析 教 師 錄 什 麼 來 瞭 解 教 師 覺 察 力(Sherin, Russ, et al., 2011)。
當 然 除 了 這 些 不 同 研 究 方 法 外 , 也 有 一 些 是 因 為 研 究 者 聚 焦 的 覺 察 力 之 處 不 一 樣,例 如Jacobs et al. (2010)聚焦 於 學 生思 考 上 , 因 此 他 的 研 究 資 料 包 含 教 師 如 何 理 解 學 生 的 想 法、教 師 如 何 回 應 學 生 的 問 題, 而Mitchell 和 Marin (2015)的研 究 是 聚 焦 在 職 前 老 師 身 上 , 因 此 , 很 自 然 的 他 在 意 的 是 用 結 構 化 的 方 式 引 導 教 師 回 答 , 並 且 僅 收 斂 在 職 前 教 師 如 何 注 意 重 要 和 不 重 要 的 事 件,並 沒 有 收 集 如 何 回 應 學 生 的 資 料。 表 1 整 理 這 些 研究 方 法 的 差異 性 。
三、教師的覺察力訓練
如 何 培 養 教 師 的 覺 察 力 是 一 個 重 要 的 課 題 , 一 般 而 言 , 我 們 透 過 訓 練 教 師 觀 看 影 帶 或 評 論 影 帶 達 成 目 的(Moreno & Ortegano-Layne, 2008; Roth McDuffie et al., 2014; Sherin et al., 2010; Sherin & van Es, 2005; Star et al., 2011; van Es & Sherin, 2002; van Es & Sherin, 2008; Walkoe, 2015) 。 那 麼 影 帶 有 甚 麼 特 性 呢 ? 影 帶 長 久 被 使 用 教 師 的 學 習 上 , 影 帶 可 以 記 錄 豐 富 的 課 室 互 動 資 訊 , 此 外 影 帶 具 有 重 複 觀 看 的 特 性 , 所 以 教 師 可 以 反 覆 觀 看 影 帶 獲 得 不 同 的 觀 點 , 例 如 教 師 可 以 在 第 一 次 注 意 教 學、第 二 次 注 意 學 生 反 應(Brunvand & Fishman, 2006);或 者 可 以 反覆 注 意 同 一個 事 件 , 藉 此 獲 得 更 深 入 的 瞭 解 。 此 外 影 帶 可 以 暫 停 、 可 以 快 轉 、 可 以 回 復 , 幫 助 教 師 聚 焦 某 個 教 學 片 段(Sun & van Es 2015)。 影 帶 也 可 以 提 供 不 同 的 視 野 , 例 如, 有 攝 影 機 專 門 拍 攝 各 組 學 生 的 學 習 , 教 師 可 以 一 次 觀 察 好 幾 組 的 學 習 , 這 是 課 室 觀 察 中 做 不 到 的(通 常 只能 擇 1 組 深入 觀 察)。 並 表 1、 教 師覺 察 力 研 究方 法 的 差 異性 向 度 差 異 性 人 數 1.個 人 、 2.群 體 (一 群 教 師 的 表 現 ) 媒 介 1.學 生 寫 作 、 2.教 學 影 帶 、 3.實 際 課 室 教 學 影 帶 1.片 段 (短 時 間 )、 2.整 個 教 學 (長 時 間 ) 影 帶 來 源 1.自 己 的 教 學 、 2.別 人 的 教 學 影 帶 格 式 1.動 畫 、 2.逐 字 稿 、 3.傳 統 影 片 研 究 方 法 1.分 析 教 師 (開 放 式 )寫 作 資 料、2.分 析 教 師 討 論 資 料、3.分 析 教 師 答 題 表 現 培 養 覺 察 力 1.開 放 式 的 觀 察 不 提 供 引 導 、 2.給 予 分 析 結 構 , 教 導 如 何 觀 察 評 量 問 題 1.開 放 性 問 題 (如:你 注 意 到 什 麼 )、2.結 構 式 問 題 (如 選 擇 題、是 非 題 ) 覺 察 力 定 義 1.三 要 素 皆 有 : 注 意 、 解 釋 、 回 應 、 2.只 有 注 意 、 3.特 定 主 題 的 覺 察 力 (如 : 對 學 生 思 考 的 覺 察 力 )且 研 究 已 經 證 實 觀 看 影 帶 可 以 幫 助 教 師 提 升 覺 察 力 (Brantlinger, Sherin, & Linsenmeier, 2011; Sherin et al., 2010; Sherin, 2007; Sherin & Linsenmeier, 2011; Sherin & van Es, 2009; van Es, 2012; van Es & Sherin, 2008, 2009; Walkoe, 2015)。
「 影 帶 俱 樂 部 」(video club)(Sherin, 2003; Sherin, 2007; van Es, 2012; Walkoe, 2015) 意 味 聚 集 一 群 教 師 ( 職 前 或 在 職 ) 對 教 學 影 帶 進 行 分 析 與 討 論 , 這 是 覺 察 力 研 究 上 , 使 用 影 帶 來 提 升 教 師 覺 察 力 的 著 名 方 式 。 研 究 已 證 實 教 師 透 過 影 帶 俱 樂 部 中 的 討 論 可 以 提 升 覺 察 力 , 這 可 以 從 幾 個 面 向 來 看:1. 教 師聚 集 在 一 起共 同 檢 驗 他們 的 教 學 , 可 以 提 升 他 們 的 覺 察 力 , 在 此 影 片 提 供 一 個 可 以 共 同 聚 焦 的 討 論 的 主 題 。 2.教 師 鮮 有 機 會 觀 看 別 人 的 教 學 , 影 帶 俱 樂 部 提 供 這 樣 的 機 會 。3.一 群 人 一 起 討 論 教 學 有 助 於 提 升 覺 察 力 , 優 於 自 己 分 析 影 帶 , 因 此 影 帶 俱 樂 部 能 夠 幫 助 合 作 學 習 (Brantlinger et al., 2011; Sherin & Linsenmeier, 2011; van Es & Sherin, 2006; van Es & Sherin, 2008)。
儘 管 影 帶 已 被 證 實 可 以 提 升 教 師 的 覺 察 力 , 然 而 , 我 們 較 缺 乏 的 是 瞭 解 評 論 影 帶 如 何 提 升 教 師 的 覺 察 力 。
四、表徵教學實務
設 計 覺 察 力 的 評 量 或 是 培 養 教 師 覺 察 力 時,很 多 都 仰 賴 於 使 用 表 徵 教 學 實 務(如 影 帶)來 達 成,因 此如 何 表 徵教 學 實 務,便 成 了 重 要 的 課 題(Herbst et al., 2013; Herbst & Kosko, 2013; Moreno & Ortegano-Layne, 2008)。研究 上 主要 有 三 種 不同 表 徵 實 務的 方 法:第 一 種 是 書 寫 的 課 室 教 學 情 境(課室教 學 轉 錄 逐 字 稿)(Dreher & Kuntze, 2015)、 第 二 種 是 最 普 遍 的 影 帶(Seago, 2003; van Es & Sherin, 2002)、第 三 種是 動 畫(Herbst et al., 2013)。 書寫 的 課 室 情境 強 調 的 是個 人 與 表 徵 間 的 互 動 , 他 可 以 控 制 外 在 干 擾 因 素,讓 讀 者 聚 焦 在 某 一 些 情 境 上(Dreher & Kuntze, 2015)。
影 帶 是 目 前 最 常 見 的 做 法(Seago, 2003; Sherin & van Es, 2005; Sherin & van Es, 2009; van Es & Sherin, 2008; Walkoe, 2015),它被 認 為能 最 佳 表 徵教 學 實 務 的豐 富 訊 息 , 然 而 它 並 不 是 毫 無 缺 點 與 限 制 (Chieu et al., 2011; Moreno & Ortegano-Layne, 2008; Sherin, Russ, et al., 2011), 首 先(1)影帶 取 得 不易 , 它 需 要學 校 、 教 師 、 學 生、家 長 的 同 意 才 能 拍 攝;(2)影 帶 的焦 點 受 限 , 影 帶 不 可 能 像 人 的 眼 睛 一 樣 想 看 哪 裡 就 看 哪 裡 , 它 有 拍 攝 視 角 的 限 制 性 , 有 時 候 只 拍 老 師 教 學 看 不 到 學 生 的 反 應 , 這 也 許 可 以 透 過 多 台 攝 影 機 輔 助 , 但 畢 竟 不 像 現 場 觀 察 那 麼 自 在;(3)影 帶紀 錄 較多 複 雜 的 訊 息 , 有 時 候 我 們 只 希 望 受 試 者 特 別 注 意 某 個 特 定 的 教 學 內 容 , 但 是 在 影 片 中 通 常 紀 錄 了 許 多 額 外 的 資 訊 , 例 如 拍 攝 學 生 思 考 , 可 能 會 看 到 桌 上 的 擺 設 、 文 具 用 品 、 衣 著 、 聽 到 同 儕 聊 天 的 聲 音 等 , 考 驗 觀 賞 者 覺 察 力 , 不 利 無 經 驗 的 職 前 教 師 觀 察 或 是 進 行 特 定 目 的 之 研 究;(4)影 帶無 法 改 變 情 節 , 用 在 研 究 上 有 侷 限 , 例 如 , 我 們 想 要 學 生 故 意 問 錯 誤 的 問 題 , 但 現 實 中 學 生 並 沒 有 這 樣 做(Herbst et al., 2013; Herbst, Chazan, Kosko, Dimmel, & Erickson, 2015; Herbst & Kosko, 2014)。
有 鑑 於 影 帶 的 限 制 ,Herbst 和 他的 研 究 團 隊 開 發 動 畫 來 表 徵 情 境 , 他 們 認 為 動
畫 可 以 操 弄 控 制 , 可 較 符 合 研 究 性 質 , 他 們 用 幾 何 圖 形 和 代 數 來 類 比 影 帶 和 動 畫 的 差 別 , 影 帶 就 像 是 幾 何 圖 形 , 透 過 個 體 的 行 為 來 表 徵 教 學 實 務;而 動 畫 就 像 是 代 數, 裡 面 的 卡 通 人 物 就 像 代 數 符 號 , 透 過 卡 通 人 物 來 表 徵 現 實 中 的 人 物 ; 在 他 們 的 研 究 中(Herbst et al., 2013; Herbst et al., 2015; Herbst & Kosko, 2014),使 用影 帶 與 動 畫並 無 顯 著 差 異 , 甚 至 教 師 在 某 些 覺 察 力 向 度 上 , 動 畫 組 的 表 現 還 略 優 於 影 帶 組 。 Moreno 和 Ortegano-Layne (2008)的 研 究 也 發 現 動 畫 組 的 職 前 教 師 有 校 正 向 學 習 態 度 , 和 學 習 成 效 。 綜 合 上 述 , 茲 將 各 種 不 同 媒 體 評 量 設 計 優 缺 點 比 較 如 表 2。
五、教師覺察力的實徵研究
教 師 覺 察 力 的 研 究 越 來 越 受 到 重 視 , 其 研 究 題 材 廣 泛 , 儘 管 前 述 內 容 已 對 教 師 覺 察 力 研 究 多 有 著 墨 , 在 此 我 們 用 另 外 一 種 方 式 來 整 理 這 些 相 關 研 究 , 企 圖 幫 助 讀 者 更 瞭 解 這 些 不 同 類 型 的 研 究 。 然 而 這 些 分 類 並 非 絕 對 的 , 例 如 下 述 「 比 較 覺 察 力 的 研 究 」 這 個 分 類 , 想 要 凸 顯 這 些 研 究 中 進 行 兩 個 變 項 的 比 較(如:在 職 vs.職前),但 屬 於「 比 較 覺 察 力 的 研 究 」這 個 分 類 的 研 究, 有 些 也 可 被 劃 分 在 「 培 養 覺 察 力 的 研 究 」 的 類 別 中 。 因 此 在 這 裡 的 分 類 是 要 凸 顯 某 一 個 特 性(部 分 內容 在 前 述 已曾 提 及): (一 ) 比 較 覺 察 力 的 研 究 : 1. 比 較 職 前 與 在 職 教 師 (或 初 任 教 師 )的 覺 察 力: 例 如 Jacobs et al. (2010)對 教 師 如 何 覺 察 學 生 思 考 有 興 趣 , 他 比 較 職 前 與 在 職 教 師 , 瞭 解 這 兩 群 教 師 如 何 發 展 他 們 的 覺 察 力 。Huang 和 Li (2012)的 研 究 比 較 中 國 的 生 手 與 資 深 教 師 , 發 現 在 職 教 師 較 在 意 培 養 學 生 的 高 階 數 學 思 考、數 學 知 識 的 一 致 性, 較 少 注 意 教 師 引 導 。 2. 比 較 覺 察 力 文 化 差 異 (跨 國 比 較 ): 例 如 前 述 Miller 和 Zhou (2007) 的 研 究 , 他 們 發 現 美 國 教 師 的 覺 察 力 較 注 重 在 教 學 策 略 上 , 而 中 國 教 師 的 覺 察 力 較 注 重 在 數 學 。 (二 ) 培 養 覺 察 力 的 研 究 : 1. 聚 焦 培 養 在 職 教 師 的 覺 察 力 : 例 如 前 述 Star et al. (2011); Star 和 Strickland (2008)研究 職 前 教師,他 們 特 別 聚 焦 培 養 職 前 教 師 的 基 礎 覺 察 力:能 看 到 什 麼 與 不 能 看 到 什 麼(覺 察 力 元 素 1:注 意),透 過教 材 教法 課 程, 表 2、 不 同覺 察 力 評 量設 計 優 缺 點比 較 真 實 時 間 製 作 成 本 操 弄 劇 情 取 得 1=最真 實 3=最虛 擬 1=最快 速 3=最耗 時 1=最簡 單 3=最耗 力 1=最低 3=最高 ○=可 ×=否 ○=易 ×=難 影 帶 1 1 1 1 × × 動 畫 2 3 3 3 ○ ○ 文 本 3 2 2 2 ○ ○提 供 分 析 架 構,訓 練 職 前 教 師 發 展 覺 察 力 。 2. 透 過 訓 練 教 師 對 影 帶 編 碼 來 提 升 覺 察 力 : 例 如 Scherrer 和 Stein (2012) 讓 教 師 對 課 室 影 帶 進 行 編 碼,藉 此 來 訓 練 他 們 的 覺 察 力 ;Mitchell 和 Marin (2015)的 研 究 發 現 訓 練 職 前 教 師 使 用 MQI 編 碼 架 構 (Hill et al., 2008)對影 片 編 碼,可 以 成 功 發展 覺 察 力 。 3. 線 上 討 論 提 升 覺 察 力 : Fernández et al. (2012) 以 線 上 討 論 為 媒 介 , 透 過 職 前 教 師 解 決 特 殊 數 學 問 題,讓 職 前 教 師 討 論 他 們 的 彼 此 解 題、學 生 的 解 題,再 將 他 們 的 討 論 如 何 解 題 延 伸 到 學 生 思 考 上 。 4. 影 帶 俱 樂 部 : 前 述 已 提 及 相 關 內 容 (Sherin, 2003; Sherin & Han, 2004; Sherin & van Es, 2009; van Es, 2012; van Es & Sherin, 2006; van Es & Sherin, 2009; Walkoe, 2015)。 (三 ) 科 技 融 入 的 研 究 : Walkoe (2015)的研 究 聚 焦 在發 展 學 生 代 數 思 考 的 覺 察 力 , 他 們 發 展 一 套 軟 體 , 可 以 讓 職 前 教 師 在 影 片 上 註 記(標 記 停 留 點),透 過影 帶 的註 記 與 彼 此討 論 發 展 覺察 力。van Es 和 Sherin (2002)使用 自 行 開發 的 VAST 軟 體 ,軟 體 中 可 以讓 教 師 觀 看自 己 教 學 的 影 片 並 記 錄 不 同 向 度 的 觀 察(軟 體 會 提 示 教 師 有 哪 些 向 度),例如 有「 學 生 思 考 」、「 教 師 角 色 」、「 對 話 」 等 視 窗 , 引 導 教 師 在 其 中 填 上 分 析 的 內 容 。 (四 ) 創 新 方 法 學 的 研 究 :
例 如 Sherin, Russ, et al. (2011)透過 頭 戴 式 影 藏 攝 影 機(戴 在 教 師 頭 上 ), 研 究 教 師 在 教 學 當 下 的 覺 察 力 ;Herbst et al. (2013)開 發 卡 通 動 畫 來 取 代 影 片 評 量 , 並 比 較 兩 者 的 差 異 , 研 究 結 果 發 現 兩 者 具 有 同 樣 的 功 效 。 (五 ) 學 生 思 考 的 覺 察 力 : 覺 察 學 生 的 思 考 是 發 展 教 師 覺 察 力 中 , 最 普 遍 關 注 的 研 究 議 題(Ding & Domí nguez, 2015; Fernández et al., 2012; Kang & Anderson, 2015; Levin et al., 2009; Roth McDuffie et al., 2014; Walkoe, 2015)。
六 、 教 師 覺 察 力 與 其 他 向 度 間 的 關
係
一 般 而 言 , 學 者 們 認 為 教 師 知 識 促 進 覺 察 力,而 覺 察 力 與 教 學 實 務 相 關(Jacobs et al., 2010; Kang & Anderson, 2015; Miller, 2011; Sherin & Es, 2002; van Es & Sherin, 2002; van Es & Sherin, 2008; Warshauer et al., 2014), 然 而學 者 也 普 遍認 為 覺 察 力同 時 受 到 知 識 與 信 念 的 影 響(Ding & Domí nguez, 2015; Dreher & Kuntze, 2015; Schoenfeld, 2011),我 們 依 據學 者 的 想 法, 將 覺 察 力 與 其 他 向 度 關 係 畫 圖 如 圖 1, 但 是 這 些 推 論 目 前 並 沒 有 充 分 的 量 化 研 究 證 實 。 同 時 , 我 們 也 好 奇 覺 察 力 對 學 生 成 就 的 影 響 , 這 是 目 前 研 究 上 缺 乏 的 研 究 , 但 這 也 是 因 為 學 生 成 就 與 教 師 能 力 的 關 係 , 本 來 就 不 容 易 透 過 實 徵 資 料 證 實 。

參、結論
「 覺 察 力 很 重 要 」(noticing matters, Schoenfeld, 2011, p.233)。 Schack, Fisher, 和 Thomas (2015) 在 對 Mathematics teacher noticing: Seeing through teachers’ eyes 的書 評 中,引 述 了 上 面這 句 話,認為 Schoenfeld 成 功的 用 精 簡 字句 掌 握 住 這本 非 常 重 要 且 極 具 未 來 發 展 性 的 書 籍 , 這 句 話 背 後 所 隱 含 的 意 義 是 Schack et al.認 為 「 數 學 教 師 覺 察 力 」(mathematics teacher noticing) 重 要 且極 具 潛 力 的研 究 主 題 。 的 確,「 教 師 覺 察 力 」(teacher noticing) 近 十 幾 年 來 , 逐 漸 受 到 越 來 越 多 學 者 們 的 注 意 (Chieu, Herbst, & Weiss, 2011; Dreher& Kuntze, 2015; Goodwin, 1994; Mason, 2002; Mitchell & Marin, 2015; Schack et al., 2015; Scherer & Steinbring, 2006; Sherin & Es, 2003; Sherin, Jacobs, & Philipp, 2011; Sherin & van Es, 2009; Star & Strickland, 2008; Stockero, 2014; Sun & van Es, 2015; van Es & Sherin, 2002; van Es & Sherin, 2006; Walkoe, 2015),不 僅 如 此, 教 師 覺 察 力 這 個 主 題 更 擴 展 到 「 師 培 者 」 的 覺 察 力 上(Amador, 2014),或 是 其 他 教 育 領 域 中 , 例 如 : 科 學 教 育 領 域(Kang & Anderson, 2015)、 純 教 育 領 域 (無 聚 焦 特 定 學 科 , 各 學 科 同 時 包 括) (Seidel & Sturmer, 2014)、非 教育 領 域,如 護 士 培 育 (McConville & Lane, 2006),有 鑑於 此,我 們 無 法 也 不 可 避 免 地 必 須 透 過 研 究 更 深 入 了 解 教 師 的 數 學 教 學 覺 察 力 , 我 們 期 待 本 文 作 為 一 個 開 啟 數 學 教 師 覺 察 力 研 究 的 開 端 。
