01/09/2010 HKUST Officially Welcomes New Students The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) officially welcomes all new students to the University today.
HKUST President Tony F Chan says at the University Welcome ceremony that HKUST aims to provide every student with a holistic education, and that apart from acquiring knowledge, students should also take part in various
extracurricular activities, as well as establish fruitful relationships with professors and other students.
President Chan said that this year, the ratio of non-local undergraduate students at HKUST has risen to 16%, of which half is from the Mainland and half is from overseas.

"This event shows HK's core value of justice, value of life, sense of community and care of fellow citizens. These are universal values that any global leader should possess and that we at HKUST strive to instill in you," he said.
