To foster students' reading abilities is one of the most important aims in English teaching. In this paper the authors analyze the main factors influencing students' reading abilities, make a brief introduction to reading theories and suggests reforming students' reading techniques by strengthening their vocabulary together with focusing on acquisition of cultural background knowledge and cultivating good reading skills.
