Symposium On Drug Registration

In China And The Asia-Pacific

Region

Pharmaceutical companies and professionals can get up-to-date and comprehensive information on drug registration in China and other Asia-Pacific countries at the Symposium on Technical Requirements for Registration of Pharmaceutical Products in China and Asia-Pacific Regions, to be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on 12 and 13 January 1998.

The economic growth of the Asia-Pacific region in recent years has led to a rapid increase in the demand for pharmaceutical products. Stringent drug control is required to ensure the quality of the products and to meet rising hygiene and safety standards.

The Honorary Chairman of the Symposium and Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Public Health, PRC, Prof Wen-kang ZHANG, says: "To supply the public with safe, valuable and affordable medicine is a common goal for the drug administration bodies and pharmaceutical companies in all countries."

The Deputy Chairman of the Symposium, Dr Albert C. H. YU of the Department of Biology at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, says that he and his colleagues not only research drug design, drug delivery technology and safety of Chinese medicines, but also try to establish close relationships between the Ministry of Public Health, PRC, and pharmaceutical professionals. He believes that the Symposium is an invaluable opportunity to acquire information, establish regional networks and exchange views, all of which will advance the development of the pharmaceutical industry.

The event is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Health, PRC; Hong Kong Government Industry Department; Biotechnology Research Institute, HKUST; Drug Delivery Technology Center, HKUST; North American Medical Association Foundation, Hong Kong; and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Safety Information Center, HKUST.
