(7) . Keywords: VR CAVE, Parametric Modeling, Human-Computer Interaction, Physical Interface. Historically, the development of technology usually brought immense impact to every aspect of life. In architectural design, the design process, method, and final result have benefited from the evolution of the new media: from the 2-D engineering drawing used in ancient Egypt to the physical scale models used in the Renaissance, and eventually to the emergence of digital media, architectural design has been able to diversify in all fields of design and construction. By using virtual reality (VR) technology, we are not only able to preview the end product of the design, but also to pre-experience the un-built spaces. Researches in VR have expanded from visual simulation and representation of design to assisting conceptual design in the early stage. Recently, physical interface has been introduced to VR environment for gaining higher immersive experience. Another emerging design method is parametric modeling, by which high-level of freedom and precision in form generation, as well as manipulable intrinsic order can be achieved. A large portion of modern architectures with organic and free forms is done by parametric modeling to gain higher modularity and constructibility. However, to perform parametric modeling, sufficient knowledge of geometry and programming are required. This is a difficult threshold for students trained in conventional architecture schools. Parametric modeling is a new way of conceptual design, which merges the early stage of design concept and mid-stage design development into an iterative process. This research uses VR CAVE and physical interaction technology to develop a parametric modeling environment that is easy to use and learn. The research topics include the learning and design process of parametric modeling, stereoscopic representation of parametric models, physical interface in VR CAVE, and feasibility of the system..
