__-- - i *.
New political and economic opportunities in East Asia have risen from the decay of the Cold War structure. In response to these opportunities, new bilateral and multilateral frameworks of cooperation are being formulated, and an HKUST conference allows for exploration of these frameworks.
“The Emergence of East Asia: Some Bilateral and Multilateral Issues” provides a forum for scholars and the public to explore the key issues of this dynamic region, as well as the opportunity to exchange views with specialists from various countries in the region. A total of nine scholars from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong will speak at this two-day conference.
Professor Ch’i Hsi-sheng, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Science, will chair the first day’s workshop which covers Sino-Japanese, Sino-Korean, China- Taiwan and China-Hong Kong relations.
