Culture Fiesta – Bringing you the World's Culture

Campus Safety Slogan Design Competition

On the evening of April 26th, hundreds of local and

international students gathered at the University Center for the first ever "Culture Fiesta", organized by NAUTY (eNjoy the pleAsUres of diversiTY) and IMSPO (International and Mainland Students and Programs Office).

NAUTY, a student organization which creates fun events to promote on-campus diversity, and the International and Mainland Students and Programs Office decided to plan an event to bring together local and international students while enhancing awareness of different cultures. This led to the concept of "Culture Fiesta".

The two-part event took off with an exhibition of Cultural Booths from around the world. As students mingled through the booths, they were able to sample food and drinks from around the world, served by enthusiastic, costumed representatives of NAUTY. Whether it was Pakistani desserts, French cheese, or Thai noodles, there was plenty of variety for everyone to try. Visually, each booth was brightly decorated to represent the region.

The highlight of Culture Fiesta was a program of performances to show the diverse talents of HKUST students. An hour of performances included the likes of a magic show, hip hop by the Dance society, Japanese martial arts, Indian dancing, music by the Chinese Folk Orchestra Society, and Filipino bamboo dancing. To top off the night, an exciting "Around the World"

fashion show concluded the performances. Participants, including students, staff, and faculty, enjoyed themselves immensely and were reluctant to leave as the night's festivities ended.

The success of Culture Fiesta could not have happened without the hard work of dedicated students that believe the international diversity at HKUST should be celebrated. IMSPO and NAUTY would like to thank everyone for their hard work and to all the participants for coming out to the event.
