Forget your exams and tests!

The summer holidays have begun.

Put away your books and notes.

Let’s just relax and have fun.

1

Play computer games? Watch TV?

To do only these is boring!

I’ve decided to learn something new, Like cycling or boat rowing.

The beach is my favourite spot

5

To sunbathe, swim, dive and play.

If only the sun would never go down

And would keep me company night and day.

Last summer I flew to Japan and Korea.

This year I am off to Singapore.

10

And if my parents can afford it Perhaps to a few countries more.

Oh the holidays are just too short!

How can I finish all I plan to do?

I wish they were ten times longer.

15

Don’t you, my friends, think so too? 20

1. People today ________.

B. are very hard-working

C. are not as active as before

D. have too many tasks to do

Exercise

Machines do a lot of work for us. With the help of machines, we do not need to work as hard as before. We have become less active. However, as the saying goes, ‘Use it or lose it’. If we don’t use our bodies, we will not be healthy. Our muscles will become weak and our hearts will not work well. We need to stay active to keep healthy. Therefore, we need exercise.

1

5 Exercise is good for us in many ways. First of all, exercise takes away harmful and useless things from our bodies. It cleans our bodies like spring cleaning. Our clean and healthy bodies then keep us away from diseases, such as heart disease. Moreover, exercise makes our muscles and bones grow stronger. With stronger muscles and bones, some pains like back pain or knee pain go away.

1

Exercise makes us feel good about ourselves, too. Doing regular exercise improves our appearance as it helps us burn fat and keeps us in good shape. When we become fit and healthy, we have greater confidence.

What’s more, group exercise like team sports improves our relationship with people. It gives us chances to play together so that we can learn how to get along with others better.

5

10 Doing exercise is not difficult. Even if we have no time for running or swimming, we can do simple things like housework. To stay healthy and happy, everyone should spend 30 minutes doing exercise each day.
