You visit a tourist 31 , and everybody has digital cameras. Amongst the crows, however, you notice a person carrying a small toy-like camera-a LOMO camera. Interested, you later search the internet for LOMO cameras.

The LOMO photography (“lomography”) 32 began in 1991 when two Viennese students bought an old LOMO film camera and experimented with it. The pictures were different from any they 33 before. Some colors were too bright, some objects were 34 , and the pictures looked strange. But in the 35 , they found a style of photography that would inspire people worldwide.

With modern cameras, every aspect of a picture is 36 . This isn’t the case with LOMO cameras, though. These fun and simple machines have special features like colored flash and fish-eye lenses. They produce pictures that have an element of

unpredictability, which makes using them a 37 experience. To get even more out of your one-of-a-kind tool, ignore the basic rules of photography and read lomography. com’s “10 golden rules.”

LOMO cameras provide a change of pace from the modern digital 38 . In our high-tech world, LOMO cameras let

us 39 the low-tech side of film photography. As the old saying goes, stop and smell the roses. And while you’re at it, take a picture of them, too. With LOMO cameras, you’ll get a new and peculiar 40 of the world every time.

Sometimes the hardest part about going to a foreign country is adapting to the differences in the way people do the simplest daily things. Differences in eating habits are perhaps the most noticeable because people eat every day. To visitors from most western countries, eating in Taiwan can seem very strange at first. Not only are the foods very different (most foreigners have never even seen a chicken’s foot ), but the what people eat is also very different.

Eating is much noisier in Taiwan. For example, when people are eating noodles, whey often slurp up the noodles. Foreigners who are used to eating spaghetti might try to wrap their noodles around the chopsticks the same way they would wrap their noodles around a fork. Making noise when you eat is very rude for most foreigners.

Another noisy part of eating often happens after the meal is over. Many foreigners are surprised to hear someone hiccup or burp at the table. These noises seem normal and natural to many Taiwanese, but most foreigners have been taught not to let these noises come out or to cover their mouth and say “excuse me” if they need to hiccup or burp.

One of the best parts about being in a foreign country, though, is that people have the chance to learn about each other. When foreigners come to Taiwan, they learn what is normal for Taiwanese and will be able to understand visitors to their country. Also, Taiwanese have the chance to learn about western habits and can help foreign friends and visitors get used to new customs, and noises.

45. Why are differences in eating habits perhaps the most noticeable differences?

47. How do most westerners eat noodles in their home countries?

A. by wrapping them around their fork B. by using chopsticks

(4)

D. by slurping them up

48. According to this author, what do many westerners say if they burp or hiccup?

A. “ It’s nothing.”

B. “ Let’s go.”

C. “ Excuse me.”

D. “ Forget it.”
