Course Description:
This course, including lecture and practice, is to help students to acquire knowledge and practice the evaluation and intervention for the skills of ADL. The following skills are included: (1) basic activities of daily living (BADL), such as feeding, dressing, grooming, toileting, bathing, wheelchair mobility, bed mobility, transfers; and (2) instrumental activities of daily living (IADL), such as functional communication, home management, transportation, leisure activity, etc, are discussed.
Course Objectives & Contents:
This course is to help students to achieve the following abilities:
BADL training: Dressing, feeding, bathing, toileting
BADL training: Selection and positioning of wheelchair
BADL training: Wheelchair mobility
BADL training: Transfer and lifting
BADL training: Functional ambulation, bed mobility & positioning
IADL Training, ex: Home management
Compensation strategy: Environmental barrier evaluation & modification
Compensation strategy: The change of methods to perform ADL function
Grading:
Lecture: Midterm 40%
Final 40 % Participation* 20 %
