Since January 2001, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has been calculated using October 1999 to September 2000 as the base period. The consumption pattern has been derived from the Household Budget Survey 98/99. In this CPI series, housing rent includes both private and welfare housing. Furthermore, CPI(A) represents 54% of the households with an average monthly expenditure of MOP3,000 to MOP9,999; CPI(B) accounts for 26% of the households with an average monthly expenditure of MOP10,000 to MOP19,999.

Global index - 0 . 1 0%
Composite CPI of November 2003 was 93.12, dipped by 0.10% over the previous month. Due to significant price declines in airline tickets, fresh vegetables and outbound package tours, the indices of TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATIONS, FOODSTUFFS AND BEVERAGES and OTHER GOODS AND SERVICES dropped by 0.56%, 0.31% and 0.28% respectively. On the other hand, rising prices in winter clothing led to a significant increase in the index of CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR (+2.54%).
Composite CPI dropped by 1.27% in November 2003 over the same month of 2002. Since October 2002, the decline in the annual rate of change has been gradually narrowing for 12 months consecutively. For the 12 months ended in November 2003, the average Composite CPI was 1.58% lower than that of the preceding 12-month period. Meanwhile, Composite CPI for January to November 2003 also slid by 1.58%
over the same period of 2002.
CPI(A) and CPI(B) fell by 0.21% and 0.03% respecitvely over October 2003.
