一、教學目標
This course provides students with the advanced language tools necessary to read, understand and write reports and basic analyses of social work issues and concerns. A major objective of the course is to encourage critical thinking and creativity in reading and writing essays about social issues and integrating these skills with basic social work knowledge.
二、課程內容
1. Increase awareness and critical thinking about contemporary social issues.
2. Integrate English language skills into the social work knowledge foundation, including relevant vocabulary, report writing, interviewing and analyzing social issues.
3. Increase identification and commitment to the social work profession by exploring issues and concerns in the international social work forum in English.
三、授課方式
Reading assignments, small group discussion and special projects, films, short essays and midterm exam.
四、成績考核
1. Homework Assignments & short essays (30%) 2. In-Class Participation (20%)
3. Small Group Projects (20%) 4. Midterm Exam (30%)
五、參考書目
Materials will be taken from English newspapers, internet, popular magazines, social work case studies. relevant films, as well as from data generated by the students themselves in social surveys and interviews.
