The 1999/2000-based Consumer Price Index (CPI) has become available since January 2001. The consumption pattern is derived from the Household Budget Survey 98/99. In this CPI series, housing rent includes both private and welfare housing.
Furthermore, CPI(A) relates to 54% of the households with an average monthly expenditure of MOP3,000 to MOP9,999; CPI(B) accounts for 26% of the households with an average monthly expenditure of MOP10,000 to MOP19,999.

Composite CPI of October 2003 was 93.22, slid slightly by 0.02% over the previous month. Due to cheaper prices in fresh vegetables and electric household appliances, the indices of FOODSTUFFS AND BEVERAGES and HOUSEHOLD GOODS dropped by 0.80% and 0.32% respectively. On the other hand, rising prices in new arrivals of winter clothing, outbound package tours and air tickets led to significant increases in the indices of CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR (+3.30%), OTHER GOODS AND SERVICES (+1.15%) and TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATIONS (+0.40%), respectively.
Composite CPI dropped by 1.56% in October 2003 over the same month of 2002. The decline in the annual rate of change has been narrowing since October 2002. For the 12 months ended October 2003, the average Composite CPI was 1.63% lower than the preceding 12-month period. Meanwhile, Composite CPI for January to October 2003 also dipped by 1.61% over the same period of 2002.
CPI(A) fell by 0.26%, while CPI(B) remained basically unchanged over September 2003.
