Chapter 5 Summary

This thesis carried out the analysis of results toward Comet/T7 and Comet/Q4 by single-dish telescope and interferometer. Here we summarize our work:

1. We have successfully imaged the thermal continuum emission, CS and CH

3

OH spectral emission of Comet/T7 using the SMA.

2. Our high-resolution CH

3

OH maps of Comet/T7 strongly suggest that CH

3

OH molecules are sublimated from cometary nucleus directly. However, we are not able to distinguish the source of CS, whether CS is directly sublimated from the cometary nucleus or photodissociated from CS

2

molecule.

3. We also detected a number of cometary volatiles, including CS, HCN, H

2

CO and CH

3

OH, in Comet/Q4 and Comet/T7 using the KP12M. The column densities and production rates of those detected molecules are determined.

4. In particular, we detected the deuterated formaldehyde, HDCO, in Comet/T7. This is the first-time that HDCO been detected in comet.

5. Furthermore, we find the red-shifted spectral component of formaldehyde emission in Comet/T7 is most likely due to the sublimated H

2

CO in the dust tail.

6. The high D/H ratio, 0.28, derived from HDCO/H

2

CO measurement in Comet/T7

implies that Solar Nebula may have gone through evolutionary stages similar to

that of low-mass protostars.
