A Place to Stay
Reading Room
Basement of the Main Library If you want a quiet place to study, the reading room is your best choice. There is an unique lamp on each seat to accompany you while reading.
Those lamps are actually antiques from the Japanese
colonial period.
Discussion Area
Basement of the Main Library It's a noisy corner for you to discuss with each other .

The NTU Collected Works archives publications by authors associated with NTU. It highlights the academic achievements of NTU faculty, staff, retirees, alumni, and current students.
Multimedia Center
4F of the Main Library
Here are various audio-visual collections you may pick up from the shelf, such as BD, DVD, VCD, or CD. You're welcomed to watch the public-edition films in the Center with comfortable facilities or book a group viewing room with 3-10 friends. Also, you may check out 4 home-edition films at most and enjoy them within 5 days.
Open Shelf Area of the
Koo Chen-Fu Memorial Library
This library is designed by Japanese world famous architect Mr. Toyo Ito. There is a beautiful open shelf area inside this library, where is built as a forest library with 88 irregularly distributed tree-like pillars. The 130 pieces of skylights of all shapes and sizes let the sunlight in all-around.

Those Things You Need to Know First !
Intercampus Loan Service
This service provides books delivery between NTU campuses. Through the online request, you may request books from a library at other campus without going there for picking them up. The average turnaround time for processing and delivering books is in 3 working days.
Books can be returned at any library on the main campus or in the Medical Library.

Request Books from ASRS Service Center
You can submit requests for the items in ASRS through SLIM. You will be notified by Email when the requested item is ready for you to pick up at ASRS service center.

Online Reserves
You may request the items that are already checked out by other users on the Library online catalog. You will be notified by Email once your requested items are returned to the Library. You can pick up your reserves at any library on main campus or the Medical Library.
Online Renewal
When the items you borrowed will be due soon and you still want to use them, you can renew them online before the due date. On the Library website, you can click on〔 Log in My Library〕and then renew your borrowed items.
Self Check-Out
You can check out books by yourself on the 1F, 2F, or 4F of the Main Library. The machines are also located in Koo Chen-Fu Memorial Library and the Medical Library.
Book Sterilizer
Book Sterilizers are on the 1F, 2F, and 4F of the Main Library, and also are located in Koo-Chen Fu Memorial Library and the Medical Library.
You will enjoy reading germ-free books after 30 seconds sterilization.
Doesn't it look like a refrigerator !?
Closed Stacks Retrieval Services
If the needed materials are in the closed stacks, please submit your request online. You will be notified by Email when the requested item is retrieved and ready for you to pick up.

Returns
Books borrowed from any library on the main campus or the Medical Library can be returned to any of them. Borrowers can also drop their books in the return box next to the library entrance when it is closed. Please note the actual return date will be the next day after dropping the books.
Viewing Circulation Record
On the Library website, you can click on〔 Log in My Library〕to view your own circulation record online.
Email Notification
Email notification is definitely a convenient service for you. You will receive the following notices by NTU Email: (1) Overdue notice, (2) Hold pick-up notice for requested items, (3) Recall notice, and (4) Statement of check-out items.
Borrowing from Other Libraries (Interlibrary Loan Service)
You can use JADE service to request journal articles or borrow books through NDDS from other libraries. Moreover, you can apply for an “Interlibrary Card” at the Circulation Desk of the Main Library and the Medical Library, which enables the card holder to borrow materials from other libraries personally.
*Before making a request from Interlibrary Loan service, please check the N TU Library online catalog to make sure the items are not NTU libraries' holdings.

Tri-Library Loan Service
National Taiwan University, National Taiwan Normal University, and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology have introduced the
Tri-Library Loan Service, so that eligible patrons from at the three universities may use their university IDs to
borrow books from the other two university’s libraries.

Search Tips: Library Catalog
You can use the Library catalog to search for books, journals, newspapers, audio-visual materials, videos, maps, and more.
Call Number ─
It indicates the location of the item.

How to Locate a Book?
Location ─
It shows that which floor this item is shelved on. “Available”means that this item can be found on the shelf. "Out of library" means the item is already checked out by other user, and you may request the items online.
* Please sign in to check if there are any request options.
The call number on the book spine, acts like the book's address on the library's shelves or stacks.
Course reserves are items in high demand for a particular course. Each item placed in the Course Reserves Area will have a library assigned unique "item number".
How to Locate Journals?
Read full-text online
Click the name of the database, you can link to its title and read the full-text directly.
"Available Online"
means there is a electronic edition of the journal.9
Discovery System
The Discovery System, which is also called Systems for Library Information Management (SLIM), is a one-stop retrieval system for large amounts of print and online content, including books, ebooks, articles, book reviews, videos, and more.
The SLIM provides a Google-like search engine which is fast in retrieving library's resources.
Users can easily access the origin of the specific holding and refine the retrieval strategy by the filters.

Finding Course Reserves
Use Advanced Search and select "Course Reserves" to limit your search by the course name or the instructor.
Course reserve books are located on 1F of the Main Library, and the course reserve multimedia resources are located on 4F, the Multimedia Center. Both of them are not allowed to be checked out for the assurance of all the students can access them.

Using Databases
You can use databases to search for journal articles, newspapers, conference articles, e-book chapters, and other digital resources by specific subject. Most databases contain not only full-text documents but also various subject e-resources, such as music (e.g., Naxos Music Library) and general knowledge (e.g., Encyclopedia Britannica Online).

Network Connection Services
Campus Network
Most e-resources can be accessed within the campus network (IP 140.112.*.*), but there is still online usage restriction on some of them. For example, “Web edition with 5 concurrent users” means only 5 persons can use the resources at the same time. You can find the access information on 〔Search & Find〕4〔E-Resource〕4〔Databases〕.
Off-campus Network

How to set up the internet connection in the library?
Wireless Connections
There are two wireless networks: “NTU” and “ntu_peap”. You can choose one of them, and enter your NTU Email account and password during configuration to use this network.
Wired Connections
Please bring your own laptop and connection cable. You can also use your NTU ID card to borrow connection cable from the Information Desk on 1F of the Main Library.
Ethernet jacks may be found under certain reading tables in the Main Library. The “Laptop Connection” instructions sticker shows the TCP/IP information. You need to enter your NTU Email account and password to use this network.

Are NTU faculty, staff, and students allowed to borrow books from all branches and
departmental libraries?
All books show the "available" status on the online catalog may be borrowed.
Borrowers can return the books at Main Library, branches , or departmental libraries where the books were borrowed from.
What should I do when borrowed items are overdue?
When an item you borrowed becomes overdue, your own borrowing privileges will be locked and an overdue fine will be charged. Please return overdue items immediately and pay the overdue fines. General materials are fined at the rate of NT$ 5 each item per day.
Overnight borrowed materials are fined at the rate of NT$ 5 each item per hour.
Multimedia materials are fined at the rate of NT$ 30 each item per day. The charges will be accumulated until the items are returned, so please return them on time.
What should I do if I have lost a book?
Please report to the library immediately to avoid any late fees. For more information, please refer to the replacement procedures of the library loan policy. You can visit〔Services〕4
〔Readers Services〕4〔Loan Policy〕.
Why was my recall/hold request rejected?
For the following reasons:
Online requests are accepted only when a book had been checked out by another patron, is in the process of being purchased, or is being cataloged.
You may have overdue books, unpaid late fees, or replacement fees on your record.
The requests are over maximum of your record.
You may request a book that you have already been borrowing.
You may request a book that is for library-use only.
Why can’t I find a book on the shelf ?
When you can’t find a book after looking it up on the bookshelf, one or more of the following reasons might apply:
Another patron is reading it.
Someone borrowed it.
Different location.
Placed on the wrong shelf.
Displayed in the book exhibition.
Missing.
Please don’t hesitate to ask for help at the Information Desk.

How can I recommend a book for the library to purchase?
On the Library website, click on〔Research Support〕4〔Books Recommendation〕.
Please make sure the book is not our library’s collection. Requests for academic titles will be forwarded to the Library Committee members from respective departments and institutes who decide whether using department funds to buy them or not. To track the results of your request, please click on〔Recommendation results〕.
Where to scan or photocopy those books limited for use in the library?
Scan service is available on the 2F and the Special Collections Division on the 5F of the Main Library. The scanner is for NTU Library collections only. Copy machines and printers are available on each floor in the Main Library. Users can buy a copy card at copy center located on B1 or card vending machines on each floor. Please notice fair use and respect the intellectual property rights.
