Students already spend too much time on their mobile phones. If they also use their phones at school, they will just chat with friends all the time. They will not pay much attention in lessons. Some may even cheat in tests by using their phones!

Tina Leung (Class 6A) 1

Mobile phones can be very useful at school. We can look up difficult words in an online dictionary. We can also contact our friends easily. We can even call our parents when something bad happens.

Jimmy Yeung (Class 6B)

Some people say mobile phones will disturb lessons. However, if we use them correctly, they can help us learn. Last week we did a group project at school. Our teacher allowed us to look for information on our mobile phones. The lessons were much more interesting.

19 March 2015 (sunny)

Today is Grandma’s 70th birthday. We had a big celebration!

Grandma does not like going out to eat - she prefers homemade food. So we prepared a big dinner for her at home.

In the morning, Mum and Dad went to the market and bought a lot of food. Mum was busy in the kitchen all afternoon. Grandma told her not to make too many dishes. But she got excited when Mum began to make spring rolls, her favourite food. Dad and I baked a cake. We needed help from Mum because we seldom cook.

It was such a big, delicious meal! We kept eating and eating until we all burped loudly.

Grandma’s smile was as big as the sun the whole evening!

Cindy wrote an email message.

Read the first part of the message. Answer Questions 1 – 5.

Dear Marie,

Glad to hear that you’re coming to Hong Kong this Christmas! This is your first visit, so let me tell you more about Hong Kong.

Winter in Hong Kong isn’t as cold as in Canada. You always complain about the snow there. You’ll like it more in Hong Kong as we don’t have snow!

Hong Kong is very small and there are so many people here. So you’ll see lots of tall buildings. The streets are narrow and full of cars. Everything is packed like sardines in a tin.

There are shops everywhere in Hong Kong. Some shops are expensive. But most shops are cheap, especially clothes shops.

Some people call it a shoppers’ paradise.

In Hong Kong, you can eat all kinds of food from different countries, such as Chinese, Italian, French, American, etc. We’ll take you to our favourite Chinese restaurant so you can have the Peking duck. Everyone just loves it! You really need to try it!

5. Which of the following is true?

A. Cindy does not eat Chinese food.

B. Marie has not been to Hong Kong before.

C. Marie complains about shops in Hong Kong.

D. Cindy thinks all shops in Hong Kong are expensive.

Hong Kong is a city of contrasts. We have busy streets and quiet countryside. There are modern buildings but also old ones. We’ll take you to see all these different places.

On the first day, we’ll go to The Peak. We can take the Peak Tram to get to the top and walk back down. At the top, we’ll enjoy the view of Victoria Harbour and take some photos. There’s a shopping centre there, but we won’t have time to shop that day.

The next day, we’ll go to Cat Street, where many shops sell beautiful, old things. Then we’ll go to Fun Park to see the pandas.

On the last day, we’ll go to Tung Peng Chau. We can walk by the sea and look at the beautiful rocks there.

If you want to visit other places, please let us know.

All the best, Cindy
