Business people find it convenient to keep a laptop computer at hand when they travel out. They will probably need to send and receive e-mail messages, chat with clients, transfer documents, images or videos, check the weather conditions--or just log into online social service accounts (Facebook, Line or Twitter, to name a few) to read the recent posts. None of the above-mentioned activities can be done without internet connection.

That's where “Darkhotel” comes in. Darkhotel is a computer virus which goes into electronic devices when people connect to hotels’ wireless networks—even in luxurious and expensive hotels. Wi-Fi devices users are invited to download software that pretends to be an update for Google Toolbar, Adobe Flash, Windows Messenger or similar apps. As business people install software of this kind, they become victims of Trojan-like backdoor viruses. From there, the hackers are able to obtain passwords, login information and other more precious private data.

What business travelers should keep in mind is that all wireless networks are potentially dangerous. They should avoid downloading any software updates unless there is strong evidence that they are free from harm.
