Operations Management and Supply Chain Management
Course Objectives: The purpose of this course is to give theoretic and practical overview of modern operations management and supply chain management from the global perspectives. The focus of the course will be three fold. First, it is practical oriented and hence detailed derivations of theoretic models will be omitted. Second, it is global oriented as without doubt it is the era of global economics nowadays.
Finally, it is project oriented as all the students are required to finish a term project aiming to solve real-world problems before getting the credit of this course. Other than course lectures, exams and projects, students will visit several renowned companies in Taiwan and China to gain insights regarding detailed operations of operations management and supply chain management. We believe that the students should have a clearer picture of modern operations management and supply chain management after this course.
Three companies which will be visited are:
1. Avon Taiwan and China: the purpose of visiting this company is to understand their global supply chain operations, manufacturing strategies, and various aspects of service, production, and operations management.
2. Federal Express Taiwan: the purpose of visiting this company is also to understand their global supply chain operations as well as detailed insights of service operations management.
3. Quanta Computer Taiwan and China: the purpose of visiting this company is to understand their global supply chain operations, manufacturing strategies, and various aspects of production and operations management.
