A study on the value of wood veneer in Taiwan 柯文宗、翁玉慧

ABSTRACT
It’s pity that people use a lot of small & middle-diameter logs for firewood in Taiwan now. It will create more value of logs in the wood industry, if we use the rotary cutting machinery; therefore, this study is to investigate the use situation of Taiwan logs. We select six kinds of logs in different wood species and use spindleless rotary cutting machine to peel the log, and accomplish 5 testes of board cost and quality. We analysis and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of rotary cutting machinery.and find the method to improve from the testing data. By summarizing and illustrating the cost and quality of different kinds of logs, we categorize the appropriate use of each board and determine its proper valuation by rotary cutting. Finally, we submit the study result and proposal to industry, government and consumers, not only expect to reach the goal of sustainable development of veneer board production, but also hope the government and its people can contribute to environmental protection together.
