This morning, Mum cried out from the bathroom, ‘Where's my ring? I put it on the shelf last night. It isn't there!’
Dad and I rushed into the bathroom.
We looked everywhere but we couldn’t find it. Mum said, ‘It's a gold ring.
Perhaps someone stole it last night.’
But all the windows were closed so no one could have come in. We did not hear any strange noises last night either.
Then I remembered that I had a magnifying glass. I took it out and looked for clues. I found some marks and some hair on the floor. I followed these clues. The marks stopped in front of the sofa.
I looked under the sofa. ‘Meow!’
Kitty stopped playing with the ring and looked up at me.
‘Ha! I have found the “thief”,’ I said.
I felt happy because I helped Mum find her ring, but we all learned an important lesson: we should put our valuable things in a place that this
‘thief’ cannot reach.
