This study examined the critical factors on the decision making of tourists to visit Ken-ting. In accordance with relevant responds from tourist and expert advice, the Q-sort technique is adopted to determine valid class definitions with qualified statements in order of their importance to developed statements and class definitions of various influencing factors.

From expert’s opinion, and field interviews with 24 Taiwanese and 12 foreigners in Ken-ting, 35 statements under 5 categories have been developed. During the process of classification, 17 verified statements and 4 valid category definitions has survived. The results obtained shows that the affecting sequence for 4 valid category definitions is B>A>

D>E, the most affective attractive category definition is B “Natural scenery and Landscape”, the least varied is E “Drama”.

The process of our classification is based on free wills of individual interviewees which tend to be different. The results obtained indicate that interviewees’ perception is the most diversified under category definition A and uniform under category definition C. Interestingly, in the list of valid catalogue definition, culture was not concrete, and has been deleted from the list of valid affecting category definitions. There has also been a common consensus among both foreign and Taiwanese tourists that culture is not a factor that attracted them.

The outcome of the research indicates that entertainment and natural landscape are the most attractive in Ken-ting National Park. This article focused on the effect of well-known factors for tourism destination. The article provides tourism destination to reconsider its facilities and promotion strategies for attracting tourists. Based on the findings, consolidated suggestions that will attract more tourists to Ken-ting were provided and this study may also be applied to other tourism areas.
