Subject: Re: AHRC follow-up information Dear Dr Hu and Dr Liao
Thank you once again for your visit to AHRC. I hope you both had a good trip back to London and enjoyed your weekend there after what was a very busy schedule. It sounds like it has been a highly productive
visit and I found our exchange to be particularly fruitful in suggesting new areas of collaboration.
I will send you a note of all the areas we discussed in due course, but at this point I would like to focus on one area where we could make an immediate impact: a thematic call for networks of UK and Taiwanese that would coincide with the call for proposals for the Beyond Text strategic programme.
There is need for urgent action here, as Professor Welch will be finalising the call for proposals in the next few weeks. I will be
meeting Professor Welch next Tuesday (10 July) and this is one of the items we will discuss . It would be useful to have an indication from you both before then as to how you would wish to proceed.
My initial thoughts are that Taiwanese-UK proposals would be
submitted to the Beyond Text programme and compete on the bass of excellence with other UK-based proposals. We would ask NSC to ominate taiwanese reviewers for bilateral proposals and in all other respects
the mechanism would be the same as that outlined in the MoU. The Beyond Text commissioning panel would have make the final funding recommendations. NSC would then provide matching funding for successful applications.
As I say, this is a rough outline which can be refined over the coming weeks.
I look forward to hearing your response.
Best wishes, Carl
