CHAPTER FIVE 5.1 DISCUSSION

5.2 CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Malaria ranks among the major health problems facing many developing countries, notably in Sub-Saharan Africa. Fighting malaria requires significant financial and organizational resources.

While Malaria continues to be a problem, it is likely that anti disease Malaria vaccine will become available in the foreseeable future, lessons from the past suggests that lack of acceptance and support from the intended recipients may lead to less than optimal compliance, and hence efficacy. For the planning of Vaccine development and application strategies, it is therefore, highly important to take community views into account. Here it is argued that such information could help researchers and funding agencies to set priorities for future vaccine research.

However, this is the first time this study is done in my country as a result household heads and patients were not supportive because some of them were reluctant to reveal their socio economic status. There was also no fund for the research as a result there was a transportation problem to go to the study site.

A similar study should also be done in the Southern part of the Gambia (rural areas) to see the real effects of the Willingness to pay (WTP) especially for the household heads with many wives hence it is in the rural area the household heads practice polygamy in most cases. Although the result clearly points out that those that have fewer children were WTP more than those with large family.
