4.6.1 Demographic vs. working environment

Physical Safety

Physical safety was the first consideration of many people whose majors concerning to such a dangerous or harmful to physically human beings. Physical safety refers to the quality work protection in term of natural and constructed environments, and the attempts to protect people from threats to their personal safety and well-being such as environmental hazards, crime, and unintentional injuries

Students highly estimated the importance of physical safety factor to job choice.

Obviously no one wanted to accept a job if known it would be in dangerous or going to be harmful to people’s health. However, the study did not find any significant value to draw any conclusion about Vietnamese students’ attitude to the influence of physical safety factor to their job choice. The result showed in table 4-29

Table 4-29: Demographic vs. Physical Safety

Physical environment

The factor at the work site referred to physical environment in this research was seen as the environment surrounding workplace physically such as land, air, water, plants and animals, buildings and other infrastructure, and all of the natural resources that provide people’s basic needs and opportunities for social and economic development. A clean, healthy environment is important for people’s physical and emotional wellbeing. Other environmental factors such as noise pollution can cause both physical harm and

psychological stress. The cleanliness and beauty of the environment is also important for people’s sense of wellbeing. For many people, access to an attractive physical environment contributes to their contentedness with life. A healthy environment provides recreational opportunities, allowing people to take part in activities they value. Harm to the environment can reduce the quality of life not only for people alive today but also for those born many years in the future.

Physical environment was an important factor affected to people’s choice for work.

That was the reason why the median of these variables was high ranging from 4.25 to 5.00 which was in “agree” and “strongly agreed” level of scale. This study found out that there was a significant value of working experience variable. The significant value was (F=6.950, p<0.01)

That helped to conclude that there was a significant difference influence on job choice by physical environment factor among those Vietnamese students who got experience at work and who did not any experience at all. Those got working experience might have much consideration on job decision by looking at the physical environment factor. They might require many conditions for such a good workplace. The result showed in table 4-30

Mental stress

Mental stress was considered as one of the important factors might have influence on job choice. People’s requirements on job were differently but most of them might concern about the workload of job, demands and requirements of time to finish, etc. Stress in humans results from interactions between persons and their environment that are perceived as straining or exceeding their adaptive capacities and threatening their well-being. The element of perception indicates that human stress responses reflect differences in personality, as well as differences in physical strength or general health.

In this research, students were asked to know how they felt they could handle with mental stress as a part of a job. No significant value was found in this ANOVA test. So this sample could not represent to the population of Vietnamese students in Taiwan to draw any conclusion. . The result showed in table 4-31.

Workplace

Workplace was one of the factors of working environments at work site. In this research, we looked for the influence of workplace to people’s choice for job. Workplace was in consideration of office design, equipments, music, colors, etc. A workplace as any place where work performed by a worker, or a person conducting a business or undertaking which includes places commonly recognized as workplaces, such as shops, factories, construction sites, hospitals, farms and rural properties.

Students in this survey were not showed any significant value to the importance of workplace to the influence to job choice of Vietnamese students in Taiwan. There was no significant that could not draw any conclusion for the whole population of Vietnamese students in Taiwan. The result showed in table 4-33.

The working environment with the conditions at work site was evaluated via four factors (Physical Safety, Physical environment, mental stress and Workplace). In which, only physical environment showed the significant value with working experience. The other was not confident to conclude for the whole population of Vietnamese students in Taiwan.

The group of students with different working experience background would be influenced significant differently by the working environment at work site in term of physical environment.

y Conditions outside the work:

Working environment conditions was evaluated as the condition factors inside the work as mentioned above and the condition factors outside the work such as Political conditions, Economic conditions, Industry trends and Income tax

Political conditions

Political conditions in this research were about politic system of the nation which the job may involve. The politic systems include policies to encourage talents, laws of work, law of income, etc. It was one of the importance factors to consider a job especially for those who want to work oversea.

This study questioned students about the influence of political conditions to their job intension. The result showed two significant values by ANOVA test. First, the significant value of the major field of study was (F=2.231, p<.05) that mean there was a significant difference among students who were in different major of study. Students in different majors had been influenced on job choice differently by political conditions factor.

Second, the significant value of working experience was (F= 8.764, p<.01) that also could help to affirm the significant difference influence to those Vietnamese students in Taiwan.

Students who got working experience were differently influenced by political conditions on job choice from who did not experience at work.

Political conditions factor was proofed to have influence on job choice of Vietnamese students in Taiwan among those students who were in different major of study and who were different in working experience in this study. The result showed in table 4-34.

Economic conditions

Economic conditions in this study were considered as social economic environment conditions which might refer to financial situation, individual income, standard of spending, etc.

This research was looking for students’ attitude to their expected job’s environment.

However, the result did not show any significant value among these tested variables so that could not reach to any statement at all. The result showed in table 4-35.

Industry trends

Industry trends or trends of business which was the most favorite and attractive

applicants to work was taken into consideration of this study as one of the conditions outside the working environment of working condition factor. The ‘spot hot’ of industry trend might need more work so that might offer many nice treatment to employees. It was one of the influence factors to job applicants. However, we could not proof the significant different among groups of Vietnamese students in Taiwan. The result showed in table 4-36.

Income tax

Income tax referred to the law of income and tax policies on the income of worker. Every country might have different law on income tax. That was very important to whom wanted to follow a specific work in such a foreign country. A job offer might not inform this kind of information that needed the attempt to learn more from other kind of information resource. So that could be differently by individual’s purpose. This study did not find any significant value to represent for the whole population of Vietnamese students in Taiwan to draw any conclusion so far. The result showed in table 4-37.
