Limitations of the Study and Recommendations

The limitations of the present study are discussed in this section. Firstly, since the present study was aimed at investigating attitudes and motivation that the New Taiwanese children had toward English learning, five new Taiwanese children who were at junior high school participated in the research. It was unfortunate that one voluntary participant whose mother came from the Philippines could not be recruited since his English teacher was unwilling to give the permission. It is widely known that Philippine is an English spoken country. With English language as the first language, different findings about attitudes and motivation that the new Taiwanese children have toward English learning might be found from the study.

155

Secondly, due to the limited time and restriction of the region, the research could only be done at a junior high school in the Northern part of Taiwan. It is widely known that there are differences between the rural and urban region. Therefore, the region variable could also be taken into account in order to discover the attitudes and motivation of the new Taiwanese children have toward English learning in different regions.

Thirdly, the selection of the English materials and teaching methods could be also taken into consideration since it influences the learning of the new Taiwanese children. Different English learning materials could be compared as well.

Fourthly, the intelligence of the new Taiwanese children could be included as one of the influential factors. Since intelligence also plays an important role in the second language learning, the intelligence test from the school could be also taken into account as one of the possible variables.

Fifthly, the educational background of the new residents could be compared with the effects of influences on the English learning of the new Taiwanese children.

Finally, the present study can serve as the basis for the future quantitative research to obtain a holistic picture of the attitudes and motivation that the majority of the new Taiwanese children have toward English learning.
