部長先生，劉院長，接前校長，各位先生，各位 女士 •• 能移參加今天貴校的七十四過年投慶，以及葛 古森圖書館的落成典禮我感到非常榮幸，繼任葛古森 博士為國際基金會主席，我認為也是一份莫大光榮。 雖然他對中國人廣泛的瞭解、尤其是對華灣各界獨到 的認識是我所望塵莫及，但由於我們是卅五年之久的 老朋友，我敢說多少了解一些他對於你們的困厄以及 抱負的關切。那種關切不僅深墊，而且儘其智慧和他 對中國人敬服的悟性來促其實現。 這個學術機構，說如鍾部長所說:「他們的貢獻 不僅惠及自己問家，而且惠及全世界。」葛古森地下 有知，曉得蒂琪亞、彼得、和我參予這個盛會，二止 非常高興。 為了配合今天我們的懷念葛古森博士，在此，我 願意宣讀國際基金會在六個月前所做的一項決議的記 鋒:「國際基金會董事會謹以至誠感謝葛古森博士推 展本會宗旨所做的貢獻，及其自一九五四年至不幸逝 世止，擔任本會主席期間，履艱蹈臉，排除萬難，使 本會得有今天的成就。他百折不撓，努力奮間，完全Iii1Ji--1

It is a great honor as well as privilege for me to say a few words on behalf of about 500 alumni in the United States, Canada& South America. A few weeks ago,Mr. T. Y. Yang (楊天一)， Presidenl of the Chiao TungUniversity Alu-mni Association in America wrote me a letter asking me· to perform two duties for today's celebration. One is to present a congratulatory scroll in Chinese for the opening ceremony of Our newly completed library. It is really fortunate for an alumnus like myself to be able to visit this new campus after having left Sh且nghai campus since 1927.
