The purpose of the study was to understand the residents' oral health care behaviors in Yunlin County. A multi-stage, stratified cluster sampling was used in this study. A total of 418 subjects from four randomly chosen townships were interviewed with a structured questionnaire. Data analysis was performed by JMP 4.0 package.

The study results in the aspect of oral health care behaviors showed that 71.77% of the residents brushed their teeth twice or more everyday; about 23.92% of the subjects, however, brushed their teeth once only when they got up in the morning; approximately 87.50% of the subjects with junior college background or above brushed their teeth twice a day. As for tooth brushing method, there were 30.86% of the residents adopting Bass Brushing Method, 38.04% of the residents adopting Fones' Method, and 77.75% of the residents using Horizontal Scrub Method (which was adopted by 68.79% of the young people aged 18-34). As for the time of brushing, 62.92% of the residents usually brushed their teeth for more than three minutes, and 77.75% of the residents often rinsed their mouths after eating. Furthermore, the group of subjects with junior college education back-ground or above had the highest percentage (55.68%) of using dental floss. On the other hand, about 55.02% of the 418 subjects, 61.85% of the young people aged 18-34 and 52.27% of the group with junior college education background (the highest percentage among other groups) used toothpicks for oral cleansing. In addition, about 11.28% of the participants had the habit to con-sume junk food and approximately 11.11% of the subjects chose sweetened beverages to quench their thirst.

In general, the residents were careless of their oral health care. Hence, by conducting this study to explore the current condition of the residents' oral health behaviors, we hope to both provide the
