Top 3 in the World for HKUST Management Research

The quality and quantity of research output by the Management faculty at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology’s School of Business and Management (HKUST Business School) is among the very best in the world, according to rankings produced by the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). HKUST placed third among 100 world-ranked management schools based on publication in the five top management journals (Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Organization Science and Strategic Management Journal) in 2009-10. HKUST’s Management faculty also published in other leading journals including the Journal of Applied Psychology and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

This year’s ranking represents a move up from fifth place in 2009 and nudges HKUST ahead of Harvard University, among other highly-regarded institutions. Altogether, the list of 100 management schools includes 72 from North America, 21 from Europe, 1 from Africa and 6 from Asia and Australia. Prof Leonard Cheng, Dean of HKUST Business School, said: “The ranking is certainly a good reflection of our colleagues’ research excellence. It is gratifying to see that the relentless hard work of our Management faculty members has brought them the recognition that they well deserve.”

Prof JT Li, Head of Management, said: “We are very proud that the hard work of our faculty has led to this outstanding ranking. Management research is highly applicable to the business world. I believe the new knowledge generated by our faculty will create value for our students and for business professionals in the region.”
