(4) Action Research of English Teaching in Local Education of Elementary School’s High Graders Adviser: Tseng Jung-Hua Graduate student: Lee Meng-Ying. Abstract The purpose of this research was to explore the effectiveness of English teaching in local education courses, during the process, this research also aimed to find out difficulties and solutions to the problems. The method used in this research was action research, and the subjects were 31 sixth grade students in elementary school. The research duration lasted for 11weeks, which included twenty-two periods of classes. The materials collected contain quantitative data and qualitative data. Through quantitative data including comparison of grades prior and post research and oral expression passing records. Furthermore, qualitative data includes learning sheets, student’s feedbacks, observation records, researcher’s journal and suggestions from other teachers. In order to achieve unbiased results, researcher analyzed both quantitative data and qualitative data carefully. This research’s conclusion as below: 1.English teaching in local education can motivate student’s awareness about local. 2.English teaching in local education enhance ability and confidence of student’s oral expression. 3.Action research process of English teaching in local education take advantage of motivate teaching design and growth of solving problems. (95) In the area surrounding the Xizhi historical street are many ancient buildings, including the western-style brick “Sucuo” building in front of the train station, the baroque-style Chen Wan-Xi building, the brick-pillared western style “Yucuo,” (House of the Yu family) and the more than 100-year-old Jianshun tea store. Old age has caused most of these buildings to wither, but their classical style still evokes thoughts of the past.
