Professor Chia-wei Woo to inauaurate the first
Executive Committee of HKUST’s Student Union
The Vice-Chancellor and President of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Professor Chia-wei Woo, will inaugurate the first Executive Committee of the HKUST Student Union at a ceremony to be held on May 15 (Saturday).
Commenting on the role of the Student Union, Mr Sean Lin, the newly elected president of the Executive Committee, a second-year management student, said the Union was a mechanism to strengthen the good relationship between students and the University. It would also help to build a better understanding between students and the community.
He noted that a major project this year for the Union was to work with the staff and faculty to organise the first HKUST Open Day in October.
The Constitution of the Student Union was passed in November last year and the Executive Committee was elected four months later.
Since the opening of HKUST in October 1991, students have been very active in extra- curricular activities and over 50 societies and clubs have been formed.
