HKUST President Welcomes Support for Deep Collaboration

Prof Paul Chu, President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), today welcomes the recommendation of the Institutional Integration Working Party of the University Grants Committee (UGC) that the Committee should take positive measures to facilitate and encourage deep collaboration among tertiary institutions. "Deep collaboration, coupled with role differentiation, will help the tertiary education sector of Hong Kong to gain strategic competitive advantages and further excel in the increasingly globalized and competitive higher education environment," said Prof Chu.

He said HKUST, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong have been actively exploring ways to deepen collaboration in various areas.

Prof Chu also said he agreed with the Working Party's conclusion that the idea of a merger between HKUST and CUHK should not be further explored for the present.
