CONSUMER PRICE INDEX

MAY 2017

- The Composite CPI increased by 0.95% year-on-year to 109.20, due to higher charges for eating out and outpatient services, as well as rising tuition fees.

- The Composite CPI increased by 0.28% month-to-month. New arrival of women’s summer clothing, dearer charges for outpatient services and eating out, and rising prices of fresh fish and fruits pushed up the price indices of Clothing & Footwear, Health and Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages. On the other hand, price indices of Recreation & Culture, Transport and Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco decreased on account of receding charges for package tours, lower airfares, and reduced prices of motor cars and alcoholic beverages.

- For the 12 months ended May 2017, the average Composite CPI increased by 1.37% from the previous period. The average Composite CPI for the first five months of 2017 rose by 0.92% year-on-year.
