Flocks of migrating passenger pigeons darkened the sky, and it sounded like thunder when they flapped their wings. This species a century ago because of being hunted on a massive scale. If we make it possible for passenger pigeons to exist again, there is no knowing whether they will still be able to live in their old habitats. Will they crowd out any remaining species? Will their great consumption of seeds affect the growth of trees?

Some people believe that humans are responsible for the extinction of certain animals, which obliges us to correct the situation. As environmentalist Stewart Brand once said, “Humans have made a huge hole in nature. women. This made going to class a huge risk for Malala and the other girls residing in the Swat Valley.

Malala was 11 years old when she began writing a diary for the BBC about her struggle to get an education. Once the Taliban identified Malala, they started to send death threats to her and her family. In 2012, the Taliban shot Malala while she was riding the bus. After being flown to England for emergency surgery, Malala recovered and bravely picked up where she left off. She refused to let the Taliban win and instead became even more passionate about education for girls.

In 2014, Malala became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, becoming a symbol for the fight for justice. Anyone who has been judged by their gender or race can relate to Malala's story.

Malala uses her celebrity to further her cause and help change the world. She promoted a United Nations initiative to give all children a primary school education, and when she met with the US President Obama, she was not afraid to speak her mind. She asked him to focus on promoting education, instead of using military strikes to fight terrorism.

Perhaps the most inspiring quality about Malala is her ability to forgive. When asked about the attack, Malala said, "That boy who shot me, I can't imagine hurting him even with a needle. I believe in peace. I believe in mercy."

Malala Yousafzai continues to be an inspiration to us all. For all of the young people who strive to get an education and live in peace, they now have someone to look up to.

Compulsive hoarders hate throwing things away and thus want to save everything they come across. Their homes may be filled with six-foot stacks of newspapers, overflowing shelves of books, and shoulder-high piles of clothes, toys, and appliances.

While most of us do not suffer from this problem of physical hoarding, technology is turning many people into digital hoarders. The rise of cloud computing, in combination with the ever-growing variety of content sources, means that people can now save as many email messages, digital images, MP3 files, and videos as they want. It’s easy to do and seemingly harmless, but the collecting can quickly get out of hand.

Digital hoarding is hard to recognize as it stays hidden in the cloud or on physical storage devices. Some people may begin saving copies of every image or article they find on the Internet, or even whole seasons of TV shows that they never watch. Soon, they find that they have stored so many things that they are unable to locate important documents or files they need.

How do you know if you're becoming a serious digital hoarder? A couple of signs are getting anxious when deleting something and constantly needing more storage space. Another warning signal is when you spend more time looking for files than what it would take to download them again from the Internet. If this sounds like you, then it’s time to address this problem and do some organizing.

Start by sifting through your email. Delete everything you don't need and file what you do. Next, unsubscribe from newsletters and alerts you don’t read, and set spam filter to block unnecessary stuff. Above all, be systematic in how you name files and folders by adding descriptions and dates to make retrieving them easier.

In a world where computers, tablets, and smartphones are used so regularly, it's easy to find yourself drowning in a sea of files. As you try to move forward in your new, uncluttered digital life, your delete key might be the digital life raft you've been looking for.

*hoard (v.) 囤積 \

69.What is NOT a sign of a digital hoarder? (A) Running out of storage space often

(B) Feeling anxious about deleting files (C) Visiting particular websites very often

(D) Spending a lot of time searching for files on hard drives 70. What can we infer from this article ?

(A) Digital hoarding is similar to physical hoarding but is harder to detect. (B) Most people begin hoarding in order to get on television.

(C) The majority of digital hoarding does not have an effect on a person's life. (D) All people who hoard are in need of serious professional help.

Can tourism ever benefit a fragile environment? The global trend toward ecotourism would suggest that visitors can play a positive role. Benefits include promoting awareness of the dangers such environments are facing and bringing in much-needed funding for conservation efforts. In the case of Antarctica, though, one of the world's last untouched places, the effects of tourism are much harder to measure.

Most tourism to Antarctica is by cruise ship operators. Although this might sound worrying, research by academics suggests that these ships may have less environmental impact per visitor than other types of tourism. This is because cruise ships are not allowed to land on the coast, and they also spend less time in Antarctic waters than in other areas. On the other hand, there are risks associated with large ships. If they experience difficulties, major rescue operations may be required, using valuable resources that are normally dedicated to scientific research and conservation. In addition, the environmental damage caused when large ships sink can be catastrophic.

Antarctica is protected by international regulations under the Antarctic Treaty System (ATS), and signatory countries take measures to ensure no foreign species are introduced to the continent. However, only ships from signatory countries are bound by the regulations, and there is no obligation to observe the ATS rules by countries and companies that are non-members of these groups. Furthermore, the monitoring process for non-members suffers from serious flaws. Operators submit self-assessment reports about the impact of their tours, but the measurements and criteria they use are hard to estimate.

Meanwhile, small-scale tourism is rapidly expanding. Many operators that provide unregulated adventure packages have been accused of bothering wildlife and putting stress on the environment. Even scientists have come under fire for leaving human traces on the landscape as they do research.

There is little hope of a ban on visitors, and tourism has increased from 5,000 people a year in 1990 to around 40,000 today. Knowing that the trend will continue, the international community must focus on stricter regulation and monitoring to ensure Antarctica's untouched condition is maintained.

*Antarctica 南極 *catastrophic 災難性的 *signatory countries 簽約國 72. What can be inferred from this article?

(A) Rules and regulations are not sufficient to protect Antarctica. (B) Most cruise ships get very close to the land in Antarctica. (C) Ecotourism in Antarctica has become less popular since 1990.

(D) Scientists have caused the most damage to Antarctica. 73. What is the purpose of this article ?

(A) To inform people about the worldwide impact of tourism (B) To show how tourists can affect a fragile landscape (C) To argue against government regulation of tourism (D) To promote ecotourism in Antarctica

74. Which of the following is mentioned in the article as an environmental risk associated with large ships?

(A) They are liable to destroy the habitat of local wildlife. (B) They can potentially reduce food sources in the region. (C) They can devastate the environment if they sink.

(D) They are the biggest contributor to air pollution in Antarctica. 75. What does the phrase "come under fire" mean?

(A) To be in need of rescue (B) To be criticized (C) To be praised (D) To be safe from a fire
