English Listening Comprehension

Office hours: by appointment A. Goals and Objectives:

1. The main goals of the course are to improve the student’s English listening ability through role-plays, class activities and class discussions. In addition, some films or news related to the topic discussed in class will be presented to students. Hopefully, the activities designed to students will give opportunities to practice their listening skills in English by promoting realistic use of the language through individual, pair, and small-group works. Theme-oriented and problem-solving activities can simulate real-life situation and help develop fluency.

Besides, To introduce the student to some methods and materials for self-study that is enough for them to pursue on their own will be done occasionally.

2. The program consists of various materials including listening activities in the textbook, ICRT news, songs, and films.

a. Textbook: There are 15 topics suitable for intermediate-level students to start practicing listening English. Each topic will be presented by teacher first, and group discussion next.

At last, students will be assigned to share the results to the class.

b. News: Teacher will present one news happening to the class.

c. Film: Friends, Three company, Cosby Show, movies d. Songs: prepared and explained by Teacher

3. Listening comprehension test will be taken place after each topic is completed.

4. Students have to bring one tape to the class for recording the lessons every time.

B. Grades and Attendance Policies

1. Your Grades will be based on class discussions, presentations, quizzes, and final examination.

a. Class discussion, Presentation and Assignment: 10%

b. Quizzes: 40%

c. Final Exam: 30%

d. All-Plus Assessment:20%

2. As undergraduate students, you are expected to be mature and professional than before. 100

% attendance is expected. Up to 4-hour excused absence is acceptable because of irresistible reasons. However, each one –hour excused absence will result in a one-point reduction of your final grade. But each unexcused absence will make lose three points of your final grade. 4-hour excused and unexcused absence will result in a failure of the course.

3. Extra points will be added if students voluntarily answer the questions or share your discussion. (three extras points equal to one final score)
