一、 問答題 (1-10 題,每題 10 分,共 100 分)

(1) Please briefly illustrate the theories of Rutherford Backscattering Spectroscopy (RBS) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Please also compare their strengths and

limitations in material analysis.

(2) Please briefly illustrate the theories of the following analytical methods and compare their applications: (a) X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and (b) X-ray Fluorescence (XRF).

(3) Compare the thermal conductivities of silver, stainless steel, diamond and rubber. Please give a list in order of highest to lowest thermal conductivity. Explain the reasons in brief.

(4) Consider the pressure effect on the equilibrium temperatures of a single component system. Explain why the melting point of ice decreases with increasing pressure.

(5) Lots of dislocations are generated in a metal after plastic deformation. Please briefly illustrate the effects of the increased dislocation density on the electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity and yield strength of the metal respectively. Explain the reasons in brief.

(6) Please calculate the atomic packing factors of FCC and BCC structure.

(7) Briefly explain why the recrystallization temperature of a metal is usually raised by adding more solute atoms.

(8) Please briefly illustrate piezoelectricity and explain the mechanism.

(9) Define engineering stress, engineering strain, true stress and true strain. Derive equations to relate engineering and true stress and strain.

(10) What are the major factors that affect the hardenability of steels? Explain the reasons in brief.
