7.3 Limitations and Future Works

(1) The design of the experiment and the amount of the subjects

The experiment is still complicated and it takes minutes to complete for each user. Therefore, subjects may be affected by the complexibility and lack of patience to complete all anchor questions. Also, some subjects can’t understand the anchor questions or imagine the description immediately and they need some hints. These are the reasons we only have 30 subjects in experiment 2 and it becomes one of our research limitation. In the future, we should make the anchor questions and process easier and more understandable.

(2) The quality of preference system

The service content in the experiment 1 came from our thoughts and the service content in the experiment 2 came from the official site of LazyTrip.

So the setting of the experiment might be restricted by our thoughts. In the future, we can co-work with the real service providers and examine the quality of the system by field studies in order to improve the system and make it more practical.

(3) The extension of mental state models built by adjustment index

Although we found that the mental state models can represent the preference and motivation, but the models only represent for the result of preference and motivation, not the reasons. For example, we can’t know the exact reasons why a person usually views an online music service with promotion-concerns from the models now. However, the ways and the reasons which are driving human behavior are complicated and valuable. In the future, it is interesting to extend the models in order to represent the deeper reasons.

(4) User experience of using preference analysis system

The process of the system is designed under the objective from the academic point of view. From the service providers’ opinions, the user experience including the user interface, the structure of the website and the incentives of using the system should be improved in order to fit the commercial standard.

(5) An application interface for apps and websites

From the suggestion of service providers, it will be more attractive to them if we can package the mechanism into a standardized application interface for apps and websites. Thus, the providers can do the survey of the cognitive data of the users directly through theirs apps and websites.
