The Committee is going to have meeting once a month in average to discuss about lhc current issue happened. In addition, it is going to hold several fomms about different issues happened in the society to arouse the interest of the members about current affairs. The Committee is also going to make board shows and publicize newsletters of different topics to discuss different aftflirs happened inside and outside the campus.
6.11.2 The Hong Kong Federation of Students
In order to keep contact with other institutions Students' Union, the External and Current Affairs Committee is going to participated in the meetings of the Standing Committee and the Council ofHKFS. The . Committee Is olso going to attend the Annual General Meeting of the Federation.

The Extemal Vice President will continue in attending the meeting of JCSF and RSC in order to reflect students' opinions towards the system.

9.2 Orienlntion Camp
The Orientation Camp 2002 of the Executive Committee was held in the middle of August. Two Orientation Camps, Big O nnd Small 0, were held from 14.08.2002 to 16.08.2002 nnd from 18.08.2002 to 20.08.2002 respectively. During the camps, the Executive Committee members shared with tho campers their valuable experience being iu the Union, especially in Small 01 and bring along a close relation and a sense of belonging to the campers, helping them to explore themselves and enjoy their new life in the University. /\swell, through this approaches, the Social Committee gained its picture about the freshmen's

Orientation Affairs Committee 2002 (OAC 2002) was set up to bundle nil the matters on Orientation Programmes. It was consisted of representatives from various fields -1\vo representatives from House Assl)('iations, two representatives from Independent Clubs, two representatives from SBM Departmental and School Societies, two representotives from SENG Departmental and School Societies I two representatives from SSCI Departmental and School Societies, two representatives from Sports Clubs, one representative from the Editorial Board and one representative fonn the Executive Committee.
Six meetings were held from 9th May 2002 onwards. In every OAC meeting, Internal Vice-President presided, as the chairman of meeting while Internal Secretary, acting ns the secretary of the meeting, was responsible for taking minutes, preparing agenda and other useful material for the meetings.

11.4 Meeting with SAO
There were meetings with Student Counselors of SAO and opinions on the student discipline ns \Veil as other related problems were voiced out.
11.5 Follow-up of New Hall Construction problem
Meetings about the problems of new hull constmction including noisel security and air pollution with Student Affairs Oft1cer of SAO were held every month from March. Free air~condition credits were given to the affected residents of Hall 2 and I lall 4 as a result of the negotiation.

With the sake of the increasing transparency of the mechanism of Hall selection, the University Affairs Secretary kept close contaot with the student representatives of UG Hall Selection Committee and gave help to them so that the fairness of the mcehanlsm could be ensured. Nevertheless, the whole mechanism was dcdded not to disclose since it will result in mi unpredictable consequence,
11.7 Reopening of Caterer in LG 5 Counter No.4
The LG 5 Counter no.4 was reopened on 2nJ September. The natures of food in LG 5 counter no. 4 are pizza nnd spaghetti. 11tc LG 5 counter no. 4 was operated by New Pizza Dird. The opening hour of the New Pizza Bird is from 1 J :OOn111 to 9:00pm.
11,8 Notebook Ownership Programme
After the negotiation with ITSC and Toshiba, notebooks and desktop computers were arranged to be sold in Cha-Wai Woo Acndemic Concourse on 8-10/8, 12-13/8 and 2-7/9 with Toshiba giving a discount to our students. A choice of 7 latest notebook models (from around $7000 to $14,000) and 3 desktop models (from around $5000 to $7000) were available for students' selection. Also, nn optional 12~month installment plan is also ommged for all students,

11.10 Follow-up of the Library Matter
There was u meeting with Associate Vice-President for Academic Affairs (Undergraduate Studies & Academic Planning), Dire<:tor of Student Affairs Office and Director of Admission, Registration and Record Office discussing students' complaint about secondary school students occupying HKUST Library during the Final Examination period in the Spring Semester. The complaint letter jointly signed by about 500 students was submitted to Associate University Libroriun simultaneously. The University promised that no visitor will be allowed to enter the library during the examination period starting from Fall Semester 2002.

The campus mail boxes have been insinlled beside LG I Big Characters Wall Md LG5 Co-opt shop in August. 111c purpose of the campus mailbox is to collect students' opinions, suggestions and complaints concerning the university and the Students' Union.
11.12 Oulslandlng Duties 11.12.1 Transportallon Probl•m
The University Affairs Committee is following up the transportation problem coused by the changes of the tmnsportotion network In Tsucng. Kwan O and Sai Kung. The Committee is planning for a signature signing campaign and a forum to reflect the worsening sitUatibn to the T!ansport Dcpartmcn't.

Concerning the needs of UST students, different new kinds of merchnndize had been purchased e.g. for example1 new types of folders, accessories, and other stationeries. In addition, big discounts hnd been strived for keeping the prices low. In order to cope with the needs of the hall residents, the Welfare Committee purchased many kinds of electrical appliances for them to purchase. The electrical appliances were welcomed by the students and were soon sold out.

The Welfare Secr"tary checks the weekly revenue report on print·cnrd selling and color photocopying. Print-card charging is also the Executive Committee's daily duty.
12.4.1 Change of Photocopying Machines
In order to provide better service of photocopying service, the Executive Commiltee decided to change the photocopying service provider. 11tc tennination of existing contract resulted in an additional compensation of HK$157, 439. I to be paid by the Union. For details, please refer to the evaluation report of the Executive Committee on this issue, which can be dO\vnloadcd from http://ihome.ust.hk/-su union.
The new photocopying machines provide better quality of service at a faster speed. In addition, the atler sale service provided by the new photoct1pying service provider is better than the old one. We received many positive feedbacks form students, which used the new machines.
12.4,2 Change of Photocopying Card
As a r<:sult of the changing of photocopying machines, members ore required to change their existing photocopying card on hand. Members arc welcomed to go to the Print Shop located in LG4 Common Room to ask our staff to change the card.
12.4.3 Ordering of new photocopying cal'd
Due to the great demand of photocopying cards in the beginning of a new academic year, the Executive Committee ordered new photocopying cards. The new design of the cards is to large extend the same as the existing one with the colour changing form blue to bright red.
