摘要

Abstract

A 45-year-old woman with infiltrating ductal carcinoma of the breast underwent surgery 4 years previously and was found to have extensive metastases during a recent whole-body FDG PET study. One of the lesions situated inthe right lower neck was diagnosed by ultrasound-guided aspiration cytology to be metastatic cancer in the thyroid, for which total thyroidectomy was performed. Metastases in both lobes of the thyroid were identified by tissue pathology. Microscopic metastases in the left thyroid were not demonstrated on the FDG PET study. FDG PET for detecting dedifferentiation of a primary thyroid carcinoma has been documented. However, there have been few reports about metastatic cancer in the thyroid gland.
