One of the major causes of poor pronunciation is disturbance from spelling. English spelling is not regular (enough, though,
through, cough, hiccough) and students frequently make mistakes through false analogy. As Prator points out, the students will
have to learn the orthographic system at some time. We find it most efficient to teach pronunciation and spelling all together.
A good teacher is many things to many people. I suppose everyone
has his definite ideas about what a good teacher is. As I look back on my own experience, I find the teachers that I respect and think
about the most are those who demanded the most discipline from their students.
