INTERNATIONAL EXPERTS IN BROADBAND COMMUNICATIONS MEET IN HONG KONG
Experts of industrial and academic research from around the world will come to Hong Kong for the Fifth International Conference on IFIP Broadband Communications’99 - to be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 9 – 12 November 1999.
Organized by the International Federation on Information Processing TC6 – WG 6.2 Broadband Communications, the Centre for Networking, and the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), supported by IEEE CAS/COM Hong Kong, the conference reflects the current state of the art precisely; its scope spans from switch technologies, protocols, performance modeling, traffic control to convergence questions, quality of service, pricing and management. Sponsors include Cable & Wireless HKT, Sun Microsystems, Cisco Systems, Fore Systems, Agilent Technologies, Luncet Technologies–INS, Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector and others.
The program of BC’99 is preceded by 4 tutorials on future networking technologies on 9 November. Mr Anthony S. K. Wong, Director-General of the Office of the Telecommunications Authority, will give a speech at the Opening Ceremony on 10 November. Professor H.T. Kung, William H. Gates Professor of Harvard University and member of the National Academy of Engineering (USA), will give the keynote speech on 11 November.

Hong Kong is abreast of the global development, and this is evident in the widespread application of ATM networks, broadband wireless networks, and high-speed Internet access. Hence, Hong Kong is very well placed to host the Fifth IFIP Broadband Communications ’99,” said Dr Danny HK Tsang, Chairman of the Conference and Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, HKUST.
