Carbon/sulfide/ironrelationshipand sulfatereductionrate wereinvestigatedin the EastChinaSea continentalshelfsediments. Thearea is characterizedby medianto highsulfatereductionrate, and high concentrationsofironoxideminerals. Organiccarbonwasfoundto be theprimarylimitingfactorforthe pyriteformation.
Sulfatereductionrateincreasedwith increasingorganiccarbonconcentration. C/Sratiodisplaysa typicalnormalmarinesediment ratio. Low DOP values andabundanceofhighlyreactive iron oxide, ferrihydriteandlepidocrocite, indicatethatiron is notlimitedinthe EastChinaSeacontinental shelf.
