HKUST Employment Survey of

Higher Degree Graduates 1997

About 83% of those who graduated from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with an advanced degree in 1997 have found full-time employment or are pursuing further studies, according to a survey conducted by the University's Career Center.

Of 182 graduates who responded to the survey, 70% are employed and 13% are continuing graduate study.

Sixty (47%) of the employed graduates are working in the business and commerce sector; 48 (38%) have taken up jobs in education, and 10 (8%) in manufacturing and industries. Engineering; teaching; research; economic, statistical and mathematical work are the four predominant lines of work taken up by the graduates.

"Most of our higher degree graduates pursued their studies at HKUST to advance their academic interests and to enhance their qualifications for better employment opportunities. Many of them found their studies directly relevant to their present jobs," said Ms Cheryl Lee, a student counselor at HKUST.
