The Composite CPI reflects the impacts of price changes on the general population. The CPI-A relates to about 49% of households, which have an average monthly expenditure of MOP 3,000 to MOP 9,999. The CPI-B relates to about 31% of households, which have an average monthly expenditure of MOP 10,000 to MOP 19,999.
The Composite CPI for November 2007 rose by 0.74% over October to 117.34, which was mainly attributable to the increase in the price indices of Housing & fuels; Food & non-alcoholic beverages; and Transport.
Compared with October 2007, the indices of Transport; Clothing & footwear; and Housing & fuels recorded notable increases of 1.99%, 1.88% and 1.40% respectively, on account of dearer prices of gasoline and Autumn/Winter clothing, rising rentals for housing as well as higher price of LP Gas. In spite of a continuous fall in prices of fresh vegetables, the price index of Food & non-alcoholic beverages went up by 0.62%, as a result of dearer prices of live or fresh fish and higher charges for meals bought away from home.
On the other hand, the index of Communication was the only section that recorded a 1.99% decrease owing to a higher discount offered for IDD calls.
The Composite CPI for November 2007 registered a year-on-year increase of 6.73%. The average Composite CPI for January to November went up by 5.43% over the same period of 2006. For the 12 months ended November 2007, the average Composite CPI rose by 5.36% over the previous period.
In addition, the CPI-A and CPI-B for November 2007 were 118.84 and 117.03, up by 0.66% and 0.76%
respectively compared with October.
