HKUST’s First Open Days Held This Weekend
All who are interested in learning more about the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, one of Asia’s most advanced technological institutions, are invited to attend its first Open Days to be held on the 23rd and 24th of October.
“The purpose of our Open Days is to present to the public the teaching and research programmes of the University, its advanced facilities, and various facets of the students’ life on campus,” ~. . says Sean Lin, Chairperson of HKUST’s Students’ Union.
The Open Days will feature:
1. Academic activities - including exhibitions, video shows and 17 talks introducing the University, its departments and teaching and research activities.
2. Students’ activities - including exhibitions and stage shows presented by the Students’ Union and various student interest groups.
3. Opening of the University’s facilities - including student residence halls, state-of-the-art laboratories, the library and computer barns, etc.
University staff and students will be stationed in all open areas to give visitors firsthand information on facilities and to answer enquiries.
To celebrate the Open Days, the Students’ Union is organising a human chain that will encircle the campus. “We want to demonstrate a sense of community integration within the University,” says Delphine Lee, Chief Operating Officer of the Open Days Organising Committee of the Students’ Union. The human chain will be formed on the morning of 22 October. That afternoon, the University will be open to Upper Six students who have been specially invited to visit the campus.
During the Open Days on the 23rd and 24th, visitors are advised to use public transportation. Parking space on campus is very limited and vehicles found illegally parked may be towed away by police without prior warning.
