What is a lunchbox? The answer depends on where you are from. If you are from the United States or other English-speaking countries, the dictionary says that a lunchbox is a small container that is used to carry meals from home to work or school. In Japan and Taiwan,

however, a lunchbox is more than just a bento or a bein dang. It seems to be a part of the culture.

In January 2002, the Taipei Times wrote about Taiwan being invited to join a lunchbox show that is held in Japan each year. Taiwan was the only foreign country that was asked to join the show. There were more than 200 lunchbox makers from around Japan also at the show.

The lunchbox that Taiwan presented was the famous Taiwan Railway Lunchbox. This was the traditional pork chop and vegetable lunchbox that the railroad sold to its customers in the 1950s. Taiwan Railway made a few of these lunchboxes to celebrate its birthday in 2001. It was so popular that officials decided to use this lunchbox at the show in Tokyo. On the first day of the show, they brought 400 lunchboxes. They were all sold in 15minutes! The next day they brought 500 lunchboxes. They, too, were all sold in a few minutes. It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Digital stickers in today’s world are the best example. Digital stickers are pictures that are shared online to replace words to

communicate thoughts, feelings, or even information. They can be used to bring fun, show different moods, or give more information about something. They are often sent between smartphones or on social networking websites.

Digital stickers are especially popular among teenagers. Teenagers today have to spend most of their time studying. It is natural that they don’t want to read a lot of words after school when talking with friends. Digital stickers that allow users to share their thoughts and feelings thus became their best choice. What’s more, some of these stickers have famous people, cute animals, or cartoon characters on them, making them even more interesting to young boys and girls.

Digital stickers first started in Japan and have spread across Asian countries quickly because of the increasing use of smartphones and social networking websites.
