Imperatives

Imperatives are verbs that give instructions or actions for others to follow.

祈使語氣動詞是給予指令或指引他人行動的動詞。

Usage

Imperatives usually refer to what you want others to do:

祈使語氣動詞一般指向希望他人做的事:

Listen to your Dad, Taylor.

Pick up the rubbish.

We use the base form of the verbs:

祈使句用原形動詞:

Close the window.

Open the door.

Use ‘Don’t’ to tell people not to do something:

加上 Don’t 以表達我們不希望其他人做某件事 Don’t pick the flowers.

Aspect Present

simple I take the bus to school every day.

Key item (verbs and tense) of this school term: Modal verb

‘must’, simple present tense

The modal verb ‘must’ means we have to do something because of rules or regulations.

We must wear seat belts on the plane.

We use the simple present tense to describe what we usually do.

We need to add ‘-s’ or ‘-es’ at the end of the main verb when the subject is ‘he/she/it/...’

I/We/They go hiking in autumn.

He/She plays badminton in the playground.
