CONSUMER PRICE INDEX

FEBRUARY 2017

- The Composite CPI increased by 0.37% year-on-year to 108.79, driven by dearer charges for eating out, higher rentals for parking spaces, rising prices of gasoline and motor cars, as well as increases in tuition fees and out-patient service charges.

- The Composite CPI decreased by 0.42% month-to-month. Reduced charges for package tours after the Lunar New Year and seasonal sales of winter clothing & footwear pushed down the price indices of Recreation & Culture and Clothing & Footwear. Meanwhile, price indices of Alcoholic Beverages &

Tobacco and Household Goods & Furnishings went up owing to higher prices of alcoholic beverages and rising wages of domestic helpers. Moreover, price index of Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages increased on account of dearer charges for eating out and higher fruit prices.

- For the 12 months ended February 2017, the average Composite CPI increased by 1.91% from the previous period. The average Composite CPI for the first two months of 2017 rose by 1.06% year-on-year.
