decorate — to make something more beautiful by putting things on it
Christmas stocking — a long sock that children hang beside their bed on Christmas Eve carol — a traditional Christmas song
Dear Milly,
How are you? Christmas is coming. It’s the happiest holiday of the year.
I’m always over the moon because I can see my grandparents.
Christmas is on 25 December, and we start decorating our home one week before that. My parents and I put colourful lights, Christmas balls and jingle bells on the Christmas tree. It’s beautiful!
I don’t go to church on Christmas Eve. While my parents are hanging
Christmas stockings and wrapping gifts, I usually sing Christmas carols with my friends and neighbours. I enjoy celebrating the festival this way.
On Christmas Day, there’s always a big family gathering. We go to my grandparents’ house. We can meet our uncles, aunts and cousins there.
Sometimes when it snows, I have snowball fights with my four cousins. It’s exciting when your snowball hits somebody! And then it comes to my favourite part. We exchange gifts. My grandparents also give me a special gift. Last year, I received a red handbag. I like it very much.
At night, we have dinner together. We have potatoes, pumpkin pies,
Christmas puddings and much more! Also, we have a roast bird. It looks like a chicken, but it’s much bigger. Can you guess what it is?
After that, it’s the moment of surprise! I can unwrap all my gifts. Every year, I receive a gift in my Christmas stocking. Perhaps it’s from Santa Claus!
Do you think Santa Claus is real? I think he is. Tell me what you think!
Yours, Jessie
