Calculus on Manifolds

Prerequisites Multivariable calculus and linear algebra.

Textbook There is no required textbook for this course. A set of lecture notes will be distributed. A selection of books will be placed on reserve at the library.

Description The goal of this course is first and foremost for the students to develop skills in communicating mathematics to others. Some topics that will be covered along the way include the notion of manifolds, vector fields, differential forms, Stokes theorem, Frobenius theorem, and an introduction to de Rham cohomology. The students will also get a chance to use LATEX.

Grading Expected median: B+

• Participation, Effort 60%

• Homework 25%

• Project 15%
